Obituary-Royer Lias This community was shocked and grieved upon hearing of the accidental shooting of Royer Lias as he was going to the Bert Peck farm Friday evening. Charles Royer Lias was born near Maquoketa, Jackson county, Iowa, on February 9, 1869, and was accidentally killed near Westfield, Iowa, on September 9, 1932, at the age of 62 years and 7 months. When three years of age he moved with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Lias and located on a homestead near Adaville. He grew to young manhood in this same vicinity, experiencing both the joys and the hardships which were the lot of the early pioneer. In 1894 he was united in marriage with Ella Petty. Although no children were born of this union their home was made happy by an affection for each other which has endured for nearly forty years. Except for a short residence in Union county, S. D., their married life was spent in the pursuit of farming in Plymouth county, Iowa. In April, 1932, they moved to a home in Westfield, where they were enjoying a closer contact with friends and neighbors. Mr. Lias was a member of the Masonic fraternity, becoming affiliated with Freedom lodge, No. 434, of Akron, in 1922. Although physical disability in late years made it difficult for him to attend lodge, he took pride in his Masonic affiliation and endeavored to be guided by its teachings. For the past two years he was afflicted with rheumatism, but endured his suffering patiently. He leaves to mourn his passing his ever-faithful wife and three brothers, Will, of Winnett, Montana; George, of Akron, and Harry, of Westfield.
