Lias, one of the very early pioneers of Plymouth county died at his home 920 Front street, in this city, on Tuesday shortly after 12 o'clock. the news of his death was a surprise to his many friends as few were aware even that he was Hardening of the arteries was a contributory cause of death. Mr. Lias had been a resident of Plymouth county since he was a boy of tender age, and was widely known, especially in the west part of the county, where he lived the major portion of his life. Edwin Scott Lias was born at Maquoketa, Jackson county, Iowa, May 16, 1861. When he was 11 years of age he came with his parents to Plymouth county and settled in the west part of the county, near Adaville, and for some years near Craig. He was united in marriage with Nellie Blanche Laycott, of Chesterville, O., on March 15, 1893. Two sons were born to this union, Emery B. Lias and William D. Lias, both of Humboldt, S. D. Besides the bereaved wife and sons, four brothers are left to mourn his death. They are George and Harry Lias, of Akron; Royer Lias, of Westfield, and William Lias, of Grass Range, Mont. The funeral services were held on Thursday, afternoon at the Beely undertaking rooms at 2 o'clock. Rev. Walter Torbet, of the Methodist church, officiating, and the remains were laid to rest in the city cemetery. Mr. Lias was a loving husband and father, a good neighbor and a respected friend, who lived a useful life and realized his responsibilities as a citizen.
