Lias Wednesday Funeral Service Friday George Lias one of the best known and highly esteemed farmers of western Plymouth county, passed away at his home two miles south of town, at about 3:30 o'clock yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon of heart trouble, after an illness that confined him to bed only a few days. He attained the age of 72 years, 5 months and 27 days. His sudden departure came as a grievous shock to family and friends. Mr. Lias had been a resident of Plymouth county for more than sixty years, coming to the Adaville vicinity with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. ?Thos. Lias, in the early 70's. He is survived by his wife, one son, Eugene, of Akron, and a brother, William, of Corvallis, Mont. The relatives have the sincere sympathy of the community in their bereavement. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 tomorrow (Friday) afternoon at the family home, conducted by Rev. J. F. Moore, pastor of the Akron M. E. church. Interment will be in Riverside cemetery. LIAS ARE HELD LAST FRIDAY Esteemed Pioneer Resident of Akron Summoned After a Brief Illness George Henderson Lias was born October 16, 1867, in Jackson county, near Bellevue, Iowa and passed away at his home south of Akron, Iowa, on Wednesday, April 13, 1938, at the age of 70 years, 5 months, and 27 days, after a brief illness of heart trouble. When five years of age he moved with his parents Thomas and Susan Lias, to Plymouth county, Iowa, and located on a homestead near Adaville. He grew to manhood in this vicinity, enduring the hardships and privations of early pioneer life. These early years developed traits of industry and perseverance which characterized his entire life. On December 24, 1891, he was united in marriage with Miss Mary E. Faull. To this union two sons, Eugene and Earl, were born. Their early married life was spent on rented farms in Westfield township. In the year 1898 they bought a farm south of Akron, where they moved the following spring. An adjoining piece of land was later purchased. This remained the family home until December, 1917, when they moved to a home in Akron. Here Mrs. Lias passed away on December 16, 1921. Mr. Lias then made his home with his son, Eugene, until 1925, when he purchased a home in Sioux City. On January 26, 1926, he was married to Mrs. Alta Lundgren and they made their home in Sioux City for two years. They then moved to the farm, south of Akron, where he spent the remaining years of his life. He was also preceded in death by his parents; his son; Earl; three brothers, Edwin, Royer, and Harry Lias and two sisters who died in childhood. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Alta Lias; one son, Eugene Lias, of Akron; one brother, William Lias, of Corvallis, Montana, and six grandchildren, Lorraine, Ruth, Harvey, Bobbie, David and Tommy Lias. Through his sixty-five years of residence in this vicinity Mr. Lias had gained a wide acquaintance, and by his rugged honesty and uprightness, his kindly, sympathetic and generous impulses had won for himself the high esteem and respect of a host of friends. A kind and considerate husband and father, a helpful neighbor and a loyal friend, he will be sincerely missed and mourned in the community where he spent the greater part of a long and useful life. Funeral services were conducted at the home at 2:30 o 'clock last Friday afternoon by Rev. J. F. Moore, pastor of the Akron M. E. church, with a large assemblage of friends to pay a last tribute of respect. Two vocal selections were sung by Mr. and Mrs. Axel Johnson. The pallbearers Were Wm. Anderson, Harry Hubbs, Walter Ross, Thomas Snyder, 0. J. Thompson and Ed. Ziegler. Interment was made in Riverside cemetery. Relatives and friends from out of town who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Emery Lias and Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Lias, of Humboldt, S. D.; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wells, and son and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wells, of Le Mars; Mr. and Mrs. Clifton Farrin, of Kalamazoo, Mich.; Chris. Holland and Earl Bowers, of Sioux City.
