Scofield who died suddenly of a heart attack on his farm south of town last Monday were held Wednesday afternoon at the home with burial in Oakwood cemetery. Rev. Grossheim was in charge of the services. Mr. Scofield and the hired man had been working on the hog house on the morning of the farmer's death and according to the hired man Mr. Scofield complained of being short of breath and went outside in order to get some fresh air. He was found lying on the ground on the other side of the fence around the hog lot. Mrs. Helen Topping, housekeeper at the Scofield farm saw him lying where he had evidently fallen on his way to the house when the attack occurred shortly before noon. Coroner Called J. J. Hayes, county coroner was called and a verdict of death due to heart attack was issued. Charles Rufus Scofield was born west of Langworthy, October 15, 1877, and with exception of two years spent in Texas, had lived in this community his entire life. He had been on his present farm for 15 years. On May 29, 1906, he was united in marriage with Amy Burlingham of Viola. Mrs. Scofield preceded her husband in death in February of 1919. Survivors He is survived by two children, Lester of Viola, Velma at home, one granddaughter, Lucille, a half brother, Fred, of Montana, and a half sister, Mrs. Joe Elliott of Blue Earth, Minn. His mother Mrs. A. B. Like of Blue Earth, Minn. also survives. In June of 1921, Mr. Scofield married Mame Husman Tuetken who died in 1924. Two stepsons by this marriage, Raymond and Gerhard Tuetken survive. Pallbearers at the funeral were neighbors of the deceased and included Fred Hanken, John Lieneman, Rudolph Flack, Thomas Faust, George Manternach, and Henry Zimmerman. George Harms and Mayeda Wilken sang two numbers at the service. [Editor's note: spelling of surname should be Schofield.]
