Charles Thomas (Tex) Embleton Meets Sudden Death Friday Evening in Reaper Accident This entire community was saddened on last Friday evening to learn that Charles Thomas (Tex) Embleton had been instantly killed in a reaper accident at the Embleton ranch on the Teton river. The extent of his injuries made it certain that his death came instantly, although his body was not found for possibly three or four hours afterwards. Mr. Embleton had gone to the field, about a mile from the house, to cut alfalfa for seed with an old fashioned reaper and it is quite possible that the exact circumstances of the accident will never be known, but investigation the next day by his brother, Gilbert Embleton, and his cousin, Roy Embleton, pretty definitely established the cause of the accident and the way it happened. Mr. Embleton failed to return home Friday evening at suppertime and Mrs. Embleton, after waiting a reasonable time for his return, about seven o'clock started to the field with a lantern to learn what the trouble was. After walking to the field she found the horses still hitched to the reaper, but on account of the many small piles of alfalfa in the field, she was unable to find Mr. Embleton. She unhitched the horses and started to walk to the Green Roof ranch, occupied by Gilbert Embleton, and arrived there about 9 o'clock. Gilbert and Roy Embleton returned with her, Roy going ahead on a horse, and the others walking. After searching for a time, they decided to secure help and Gilbert went to the highway and sent word to Fort Benton for searchers to help locate his brother. Several from here went down, but before their arrival Roy Embleton had located the body. The sudden death of Tex Embleton removes from our midst a most highly respected and beloved citizen and one who had spent practically all his life in and near this city, and he was of a pioneer family, and among the best known families in the history of this county. His death is a severe shock to all relatives and a large circle of friends, which was governed only by his acquaintance. Charles Thomas Embleton was born in Fort Benton on Oct. 23, 1882, and passed away on Oct. 6, 1939, age 56 years, 11 months and 13 days. He was united in marriage to Ida Meredith at Great Falls, Mont., and to this union two boys, Charles and Morris, were born, who with his wife survive him. He is also survived by two stepsons, Jack Merideth, who is in the navy, and Robert Merideth, who is at home. He is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Gilbert Embleton, Fort Benton; Mrs. Ed Kelly, Fort Benton; Mrs. Alice LaFolette, Los Angeles, Calif.; Howard Embleton of Dallas, Texas; and by a cousin, Roy Embleton, and other relatives and a large circle of friends. He was a member of the A.F.&A.M. lodge, of this city. The funeral services were in charge of the Masonic lodge. The services were largely attended. Burial was made in Riverside cemetery. The relatives have the sincere and heartfelt sympathy of the entire community in their hour of sorrow and great loss.
