Vernon was saved as a youth at Pleasant Valley Church and came to know the abundant life in Christ in his middle years. he had a deep desire to share it with other through the work of Child Evangelism Fellowship, Back to the Bible , and other Bible teacher ministres. Vernon was saved as a youth at Pleasant Valley Church and came to know the abundant life in Christ in his middle years. he had a deep desire to share it with other through the work of Child Evangelism Fellowship, Back to the Bible , and other Bible teacher ministres. Vernon married Rena Balmer on Oct. 1, 1943 in harper. She survives along with their children: Lewis Glassburn of Liberty, MO., Kathy Bradford of Phoenix, AZ., Fred Glassburn and Steve Glassburn both of Portland, OR, Stan Carlisle of Hesston, KS; 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren; sisters: Vena Webb of Harper, Ada Glassburn, Newton, KS, Estelle Glassburn of Wichita, Elsie Beyler of Protection, Catherine Bickel of Harper, and Lorene Wideman of Albany, OR; brother: Raymond Glassburn of North Platte, Nebraska; other relatives and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother John Harold, and one grandson Dondi Lautt. Funeral services were held at 2 pm. Saturday, october 24, 1987 in the Pleasant Valley Mennonite Church with Rev. Stan Howerton and Rev. Sanford Hartzler officiating ministers. A church octet sang "I Know Whom I Hath Believed" and "Grace greater than Our sins." Mr. Larry Mitchell sang, "Blessed Asurance" and led the congregation in singing "Trusting Jesus." Mrs. Connie Mitchell was the organist. "When the Roll is called up Yonder" was sung at the graveside. Casket bearers were Otis Coon, Elmer Ramer, Roy Naffziger, Clarence Burkholder, Harold Summerfield, and Ralph Hershberger. Intermentwas in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Harper, under the direction of the Elliott Funeral Home of Harper. Memorials have been established in memory of Vernon with the Child Evangelism Fellowship or the Community Bible Church.
