Description	:	Rena (Balmer) Glassburn was born near Harper on April 16, 1906, the youngest of six daughters to Ferdinand and Lina (Gerber) Balmer. She passed from this life on March 23, 1988 at the Attica Hospital at the age of 81 years 11 months and 7 days. She married Venon Glassburn October 1, 1943 at Harper where they resided until his death on Oct. 22, 1987. Read More	Rena (Balmer) Glassburn was born near Harper on April 16, 1906, the youngest of six daughters to Ferdinand and Lina (Gerber) Balmer. She passed from this life on March 23, 1988 at the Attica Hospital at the age of 81 years 11 months and 7 days. She married Venon Glassburn October 1, 1943 at Harper where they resided until his death on Oct. 22, 1987. In her youth, Rena accepted Christ as her personal Saviour and was baptized into the fellowship of the Pleasant Valley Mennonite Church were she gave many years of service, especially in working with the children. Despite their initial objections, Rena's parents allowed her to attend Hesston College and Bible School so that she could become a school teacher. After earning a teaching certificate she taught for several years in the public schools. She then took a leave of absence to care for her mother until her death in 1934. After that she continued to make a home for her father until his death in 1951. Throughout thse years she used her teaching ability in extensive Bible School work for children both locally and in other communities. She regularly taught Sunday School classes. Her rich alto-voice was heard in ladies and mixed quartets and ensembles for many years. She continued her work with children through the minstry of child Evangelism and conducted "The Good New Club" for many years in Harper and the surrounding area. It is because of her great love and concern for children that she and her husband opened their home and hearts to become the family for their five children. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and five sisters: Lavina Hartzler, Lillie Roupp, Della Hostetler, Dessie Headrick, Ruth Hostetler and one grandson Dondi Lautt. She is survived by sons: Lewis, Fred, Steve, and Stan; one daughter, Kathy Bradford; 17 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren; a special friend Justin Wohlschlegel; 25 nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
