Read More	Charlie, born in Scotland, came to the US when he was a teenager, first residing with the family in Massachusetts. He learned the carpentry business from his father and grandfather and took up the trade, along with his brothers Robert and George in the Long Island NY area. He returned to Massachusetts where became a house builder by profession constructing homes in new developments in Belmont Massachusetts 1930's - 1950's. His parents had left Massachusetts for the quiet life on farmland on Eastman Hill in North Sanbornton New Hampshire. Charles resided in Belmont Mass and summered in NH where he built a home in the field across the street from his parents. He would spend his summers farming and also spent his retirement years in his New Hampshire home. He married Anna Batten born in Newfoundland 1902. She immigrated in 1922. They divorced ten years later. The couple had two children daughters, Marion and Jean. After his divorce, he brought his daughters to his Sanbornton NH farm where they went to school, played with cousins and enjoyed the farm animals. His sister Agnes, who lived nearby, helped him with their care. Three years later, his daughters, then entering their early teens, returned to their mother who had remarried in Massachusetts. Charlie also returned to his career in housing development there. After the housing development showed Charlie returned to his NH "farm" in the early 1960's. He did a little bit of everything on his small farm where he had work horses, a couple cows, chickens and a good-sized garden. He also raised and sold border collies which he enjoyed. Obit: Sanbornton, Charles W. Macaulay died age 81 at the Franklin Regional Hospital. He was born in Scotland and came to this country when he was 15 yrs of age. He had been a carpenter for most of his life. Survived by two daughters Mrs. Jean McCarthy of Lexington Mass and Mrs. Marion Ranstrom of West Springfield Mass; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Services were held at the Paquette Funeral Home in Tilton, Rev John Hatch officiated. Burial followed in the family lot at Park Cemetery in Tilton. Wife Annie died 1989. She had married 2nd Joseph Ford and was divorced and took her name Macaulay back. She was buried in Lexington Massachusetts where she had been living with her daughter Jeanie McCarthy. Jeanie (Macaulay) McCarthy died at age 95 in 2020 and was buried in Lexington. Marion (Macaulay) Ramstrom died West Springfield Masachusetts and was buried with her husband there.
