In early manhood he moved to Gardner, Illinois, in March of 1873, and ten years later came to Nebraska, settling near Fairmont, in February, 1883. He united with the Methodist Episcopal church in 1884, remaining loyal to its life and activities throughout the entire period of his manhood life. Read More	Charles Wesley Perkins was born at Duncansville, Pennsylvania, March 13, 1865. In early manhood he moved to Gardner, Illinois, in March of 1873, and ten years later came to Nebraska, settling near Fairmont, in February, 1883. He united with the Methodist Episcopal church in 1884, remaining loyal to its life and activities throughout the entire period of his manhood life. Mr. Perkins was united in marriage to Miss Addie McCashland, September 30, 1886. Five children came to bless this home, four of whom, with their mother, are in sorrow at the so early passing of a devoted father and husband. the children are Mrs. Grace Hottle, Gridley, California; Miss Edith L. Perkins, Miss Gladys O. Perkins and Wesley J. Perkins, all of whom reside at home. One child, a boy, died in infancy. Mr. Perkins departed this life at his home, September 25th, 1922, aged fifty-seven years, six months and twelve days. Such is the brief sketch of a few of the outstanding events in the life of a brother beloved. More nearly perfect by far is the outline of his good life as sketched in the hearts of those of his household who knew and loved him best. His life was of that fine, stalwart type which causes one unconsciously to experience an added respect for the human race. Years ago he decided to live the Christian life. Daily seeking divine help thru prayer and the study of God's Word, he proceeded quietly but firmly, to do the things which a Christian ought to do. this, in a few words, tells the story of his life. Charles Perkins inherited well in the matter of character. He came of parents who knew the value and the glory of Christ-like service. Their children were children of prayer and faith. Our deceased brother had sense enough not to waste the precious heritage of Christian hope and fidelity, which was thus bequeathed to him. He early learned the superlative worth of the church. He knew that in spite of all of the imperfections which the church might suffer, that nothing could take its place, nor compare with it in its ministry of helpfulness to a very needy world. He did accordingly the very thing which a strong, earnest man would naturally do when moved by such convictions; he loyally stood by the church against all foes to the very last of his days. He served the Kingdom of Christ long and faithfully in various official capacities. When it was time for him to depart, although his body was racked with pain, his spirit had found the "place of quiet rest, near to the heart of God." Funeral services were held from the Fairmont Methodist church, Friday afternoon at two o'clock, Rev. Lotan R. DeWolf of York officiating, assisted by Rev. V.C. Wright, and interment was made in the Fairmont cemetery. The services were largely attended. Relatives present from other points were a daughter, Mrs. W.A. Hottle of Gridley, California; two brothers, John Perkins of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Edward Perkins and family of McCook; Mr. and Mrs. William Walworth and Mrs. Ward Marget of Lincoln; Mr. and Mrs. Charles McCashland and Mr. and Mrs. Ira Love of Geneva.
