In 1873 while George was still a boy, the family moved to Grundy county, Illinois. Miss Maggie B. Stanley of Gardner in the same county, and George Perkins began their life partnership by their marriage at Gardner, Illinois, on November 30, 1879, and the fiftieth anniversary of this happy union was celebrated by this devoted couple in the midst of their family and large circle of friends at their home here in Fillmore county two years ago. It was forty-nine years ago that the couple moved from Illinois to Nebraska, the actual date being February 17, 1883, and for a while York county and then for the longer period, Fillmore county continued to be their home during the long years of their happy married life. Born to them were three boys and two girls: Chester E., Mabel B. (Mrs. Fred Barker), Stanley G. (deceased), Nellie M.(Mrs. W.H. Marget of Lincoln), and George Harrison, these children, with the exception of Mrs. Marget, residing within easy distance of their parents. Mr. Perkins served in a public capacity both his home community and the state. For seven years he was a member of the Fillmore County Board of Supervisors; for thirteen years, a member of the rural school board; and in 1906, he was honored by election to the house of representatives in the Nebraska legislature. A life-long member of the Methodist Episcopal church, and an active and sincere worker on the official board and devoted attendant at divine worship, he and Mrs. Perkins transferred their membership from Illinois to the Fairmont charge during the pastorate of the Rev. E.J. Randall in 1884. Mr. Perkins also maintained his good standing as a master Mason in Fairmont Lodge No. 48, A.F.&A.M. Some two years ago he was taken ill with the malady which finally brought him to the end of his life's journey, when his kindly spirit was released from a suffering body in the afternoon of Thursday, March 17, in the seventy-second year of his age. Mr. Perkins is survived by his beloved wife; the children named above; his brothers, John A. , Minneapolis, Minnesota; Edward D., McCook, Nebraska; Alexander R., Fairmont; and Frank B., Boise, Idaho; and by eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Assisted by Rev. J.A. Martin and Rev. O.H. Albertson, the pastor, Rev. J. Henry Stitt, conducted funeral services on Saturday afternoon, March 19th, in the Fairmont Methodist church, following a brief service at the residence northwest of town. There was a large attendance of Mr. Perkins' old friends and neighbors, besides the many relatives. Fairmont lodge No. 48, A.F.&A.M. formed a guard of honor and the O.E.S. was well represented by its members. The hymns, "Beautiful Isle," "Some Time We'll Understand" and "Nearer My God" were sung by the quartet: Mrs. Mabel Quinlan, Mrs. Charles Little, Oliver Moul and Alden McFadden. Prayer was offered by Rev. J.A. Martin and the scripture lesson was read by Rev. O.H. Albertson. The pastor's address was based on the words of Saint Paul in Second Corinthians: "We have a building of God." At the Fairmont cemetery, Masonic honors were given by the fraternity, the order of committal to the last resting place being delivered by Past Grand Master, Ira C. Freet, of York. Pallbearers were Messrs. C.J. Watson, H. Bergstrand, M.M. Akin, H. Smith, J.A. Anderson and E.T. Parnell.
