Description	:	Charles was the son of James and Hannah Gilchrist. He married Florence Hinckley on 15 November 1890 in Havelock, Pocahontas, Iowa. They were the parents of James Cleland, Charles, John Pierre, Claude, Richard, Wilma Gail, Mary Opal, and Willard. June 9, 1955 - Rolfe Arrow - Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, June 7, at two o'clock at the Methodist church here for C.W. Gilchrist, 89, Pocahontas county resident for 73 years. Rev. They were the parents of James Cleland, Charles, John Pierre, Claude, Richard, Wilma Gail, Mary Opal, and Willard. Robert Moss officiated at the services with burial in Summit Hill cemetery. Mr. Gilchrist was born February 11, 1886, at California, Pa. He came to Iowa with his brother, Clel, and located at Cedar Falls. In 1882 he moved to Pocahontas county and settled in Sherman township, farming near Havelock and later near Laurens. In 1891 he moved onto a farm near Pocahontas and lived there until 1923 when they moved into Pocahontas. He served as Pocahontas County Auditor at one time and later was Pocahontas county deputy sheriff. He also was a one time member of the public school board. Mr. and Mrs. Gilchrist were the parents of eight children, one of whom, Mrs. John (Wilma) Pascal, died in 1926. Survivors include his widow, six sons and one daughter. They are Mrs Leo Shimon, James Gilchrist and Richard Gilchrist of Pocahontas, Charles Gilchrist of Los Angeles, Calif., Pierre Gilchrist of Arnolds Park, Claude Gilchrist of Des Moines and Willard Gilchrist of Spencer. He is also survived by a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren and by a sister, Mrs. J.H. Allen of Detroit Lakes, Minn., formerly of Pocahontas and Des Moines. Mr. Gilchrist died at his home Saturday afternoon, June 4.
