Read More	DEATH COMES IN SUDDEN MANNER TO CHARLES WISE Was Well Known Business Man, Residing Here Many Years Charles Wise one of Akron’s best known and most highly esteemed citizens, was suddenly summoned from earthly activities at about 5 o’clock Monday afternoon. Leaving the Hilliker & Son garage a few minutes before he had had a little difficulty in starting his truck, which was parked nearby, and had jacked up one of the hind wheels and succeeded in getting the motor started. When he was about to get into the cab of his car, he was suddenly stricken with a heart attack and fell to the ground. W.H. Whitehouse, who operates a cream station nearby, saw Mr. Wise fall and ran to his aid and summoned assistance. Drs. W.J. Brunner and Geo. Mattison quickly arrived, but found that life was extinct. Mr. Wise had been going about his usual work of draying during the day, and upon leaving the garage was apparently in his customary health and spirits. It is believed that the exertion of cranking his truck overtaxed his heart and caused his sudden collapse and death. Upon other occasions the cranking of the truck is said to have affected him. Charles Wise was born in Henry County, Illinois, March 10, 1859, and attained the age of 73 years, 8 months and 4 days. He came to Scott County, Iowa, with his parents when he was five years of age. In 1884 he came to northwestern Plymouth County, and on September 25th of that year he was untied in marriage with Marguerite E. Pollock. They homesteaded on a farm in Portland Township and made their home there for a number of years. In addition to farming, Mr. Wise engaged in threshing operations during the season, owning the first steam threshing machine used in this section of the country. Later he moved to Akron with his family, and in 1905 went into partnership with Chas. L. Chamberlin in the general mercantile business, later in the same year Henry Rohrer buying Mr. Chamberlin’s interest and the firm becoming Wise & Rohrer. In a few months Mr. Wise sold his interest to his partner. For the past twenty-three years he has been engaged in the draying business and was a most familiar figure about the streets of our town, always on the job no matter what the season or condition of weather. He acquired the habit of industry early in life and carried on right up to the end. A man of jovial disposition, as big in heart as in stature, honorable and upright in all his dealing with mankind, he gained the esteem and respect of all with whom he came in contact, numbering his friends by his acquaintances. This kindly and genial man will be missed from the daily walks of life as few citizens here would be. His sudden taking away came as a grievous shock to family and friends alike. Mr. Wise is survived by his widow; two sons, Vance Wise, of Sioux City, Iowa, and Leo A. Wise, of Chicago, Ill., and five grandchildren, Dorothy Mae, Mildred Lee, Marguerite, Betty Jean and Lillian Faye Wise; also by one brother and one sister, Henry Wise, of Pueblo, Colo., and Mrs. James Lilley, of Hawarden, Ia., and two half-brothers Leo Nusbaum, of Atchison, Kan., and Fred Nusbaum, of Omaha, Nebr., besides a number of other relatives. He was a kind and devoted husband father and grandfather, a great lover of home, a helpful neighbor and valued friend. In their great and sudden loos, the community tenders its sincerest sympathy to the bereaved family. Funeral serves are being held this (Thursday) afternoon in the M.E. Church, conducted by Rev. F.F. Robinson. The burial, in Riverside cemetery, in charge of members of Freedom lodge A.F. & A.M., to which order he had belonged for many years. Among the relatives who came from out of town were: Vance Wise and family and Arden Pollock, of Sioux City; Leo A. Wise, of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. James Lilley and Ed. Larson, of Hawarden; Leo Nusbaum, of Atchison, Kan.; Fred Nusbaum, of Omaha, Nebr.
