DECKER DIED AUGUST 27; RESIDENT OF WAUNETA MANY YEARS Chester G. Decker was born January 26, 1874 (sic)at Table Rock, Nebraska and closed his eyes in dreamless sleep, August 27, 1947. When a small boy he moved with his father, James I. Decker and his mother, Martha Decker to Kanona, Kansas. Here with his parents, be began a pioneering life on a homestead and received the greater part of his formal education. In 1898 the family moved to Traer, Kansas. Blazing new trails, they met the hard problems of early life in the new land and solved them. Such courageous people have earned ever-lasting gratitude from a generation which is spiritually and materially richer because they gave so much. In the early days of his life, Chester Decker learned the meaning of loyalty and responsibility and was ever willing to give of his untiring efforts he successfully won for himself the respect and friendship of all who knew him. He was united in marriage January 17, 1906 to Nellie Beard of Traer, Kansas. Three children came to bless this union: Cecil B. Decker of Beaverton, Oregon; Mrs. Clarence (Mildred I.) Helm and Lodie A. Decker of Imperial. Many years ago Mr. and Mrs. Decker moved with their family to Wauneta, Nebraska, where they lived and reared their family; later they moved to Arapahoe, Nebraska, in 1942. Thirty-four years ago, under the preaching of a brother, now deceased, Mr. Decker was converted to the Christian faith, and through those may years has adhered to the basic principles and ideals of the teachings of Christ. On July 5, of this year, Mr. Decker was seriously injured in an automobile accident from which he never fully recovered and passed away at Imperial August 27, 1947. He leaves to mourn his passing his beloved wife and grandchildren; one grandson, Darrel Decker; one brother, Walter E. Decker of Arapahoe; two sisters, Mrs. Elma Cochran of McCook, and Ms. Addie Thomas of Wauneta; many nieces and nephew and a host of friends. Servant of God, well done! Rest from thy loved employ: The battle fought, the victory won, Enter thy Master's joy. The pains of death are past, Labor and sorrow cease, And Life's long warfare closed at last. Thy soul is found in peace. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, August 30, at the Methodist Church at Wauneta. Rev. E. Edward Peterson of Imperial gave the sermon. Singers were Cloyd Nesmith of Imperial, Mrs. L.A. Grimm, Bert Dimick, and Mrs. Mary Bardsley of Wauneta, accompanied at the organ by Mrs. E. R. Voorhees of Wauneta. Casket bears, all nephews of the deceased were Zenas E. Decker, Dean Barnes, Hamlet, Lee Thomas, Lamar, and Charles, Luther and Guy Barnes of Wauneta. Interment was in the Wauneta Cemetery with Luhrs and Reynolds of Imperial in charge. Name and date of paper unknown. From Linda Ueland Information contributed by C. Stoppel
