Chester Jay Jones was born August 9, 1913 in St. Lawrence township, Hand County, to Evan and Emma (Carl) Jones. He left home in 1928 and worked for his brother-in-law, A.O. Smith, and his brother, Raymond, for a few years in the Flandreau and Brookings area. He and his brother Joe traveled around the country doing a variety of jobs. Chester Jay Jones was born August 9, 1913 in St. Lawrence township, Hand County, to Evan and Emma (Carl) Jones. He left home in 1928 and worked for his brother-in-law, A.O. Smith, and his brother, Raymond, for a few years in the Flandreau and Brookings area. He and his brother Joe traveled around the country doing a variety of jobs. He learned to make ice crem in Los Angeles, CA. He made ice cream in Los Angeles in the winter and worked for the Langenfeld's Creamery in Watertown during the summer. He was called home when his father was injured, and helped the family until his father regained his health. He then went to Clear Lake where he owned and operated a feed grinder. He married Eloise Holt June 13, 1941 at Clear Lake. In 1942 he returned to Hand County and started farming in St. Lawrence township. He married Dorothy Peterson Bahr March 13, 1959 at Huron. He continued farming until he retired and moved into St. Lawrence in 1974. He spent the winter months at his home in Yuma, AZ. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Jones, St. Lawrence; one son, Jay C. Jones, Spokane, WA; one daughter, Mrs. Leslie (Kay) Snuggerud, La Crescent, MN; three stpesons, Joe and Don Bahr, Rapid City, and Terry Bahr, Spokane, WA; one step-daughter, Mrs. Daniel (Gloria) McGough, Pierre; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; three sister, Mrs. Almon (Myrtle) Van de Berg, Neillsville, WI, Mrs. Arnold (Esther) Prestrude, Estelline and Mrs. Howard (Genevieve) Johnson, Watertown; three brothers, Eben Clear Lake, Joseph, Boise, ID and Wilbur, Miller. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and one sister.
