Read More	Allen Jones Found Dead; Rites Held at Community Church Evan Allen Jones, 87, was found dead at his home in Miller Friday and is believed to have been dead since some time the preceding Tuesday night. Jones lived alone in two rooms on the second floor of the house occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Blakslee. He had planned to spend Thanksgiving with a daughter, Mrs. Joy Thompson of Brookings, and it was assumed that he had gone there. However, the Blakslees became concerned when they failed to hear him in his apartment, and investigating, found the door locked. Blakslee broke down the door to gain entrance to the room, and found Jones dead in bed. Death is assumed to have been due to heart failure. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Community Church in St. Lawrence, and were in charge of the Rev. Walter Larrabee. Burial was made in the G.A.R. cemetery at Miller. Pallbearers were Leroy Blanchard, Frank Clegg, Glenn Ross, Russell Roth, Sam Kelley and Art Moon. The son of pioneers of the county, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Jones, he was born at Hollywell, North Wales, August 15, 1869. At the age of 12 years, he immigrated to Hand County, with his parents, a brother and sister. He homesteaded on the farm now occupied by his brother, Eldon Jones. He was married to the late Emma Melissa Carl on January 5, 1898, and they settled on their farm north of St. Lawrence. Both were members of the Christian Church in Miller, and later attended church in St. Lawrence. He was active in community affairs, serving as township supervisor, assessor and school board member. Following the death of his wife, he moved to Miller to make his home. Surviving are his ten sons and daughters, Mrs. A. O. Smith, Prescott, Wis., Mrs. Joy Thompson, Brookings, Mrs. Arnold Prestrude, and Mrs. Howard Johnson, Estelline, Ray, Hot Springs, Ark, Lloyd, Brandt, Eben Estelline, Joseph, Orient, Chester, St. Lawrence, and Wilbur, Miller. There are also 21 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
