Albert Jensen born in Iowa ----------- Mrs. Rasmus Jensen Died Friday; Funeral Held Sunday Afternoon Mrs. Rasmus Jensen who had been ill for many months, and whose condition was quite serious last spring, passed away Friday morning. Her death follows an illness of long duration and for the past seven months she was confined to her bed. Loving hands gave her every care and attention and someone was constantly at her bed side all the time to render every little comfort or service that might ease her in any way. The best of medical aid was given, but on account of her advanced years, it was realized, and as the parting would be, that it would be a relief to the patient sufferer when God would call her to His heavenly home. She passed away as stated on Friday morning. The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon. Services were conducted at the house at one o'clock and at the Lutheran church in this city at 1:30. The Rev. H. P. K. Hansen, pastor of the Danish Lutheran Church of South Walnut, officiated. Hundreds of relatives and friends who knew the deceased so long and so favorably, were in attendance at the funeral and the scores of beautiful flowers that decorated the casket were an evidence of the high esteem in which this loving mother was held. From the church the funeral procession winded its way to the beautiful parochial burial ground in South Walnut where the final services were held. The pallbearers were S. P. Duhn, L. P. C. Larsen, Joe Gabrielson, Hans Duus, Dan Westergard and Peter F. Petersen. Christena Petersen was born in Jutland, Denmark, October 5, 1848, and died at her home in Graettinger, Iowa, July 25, 1924, at the age of 75 years, 8 months and 21 days. She was united in marriage in her native land to Mr. Rasmus Jensen June 24, 1869. In 1875 they emigrated to America and located on a homestead in Emmetsburg township. Mr. and Mrs. Jensen were the parents of nine children, six of whom are living. Mr. Jensen passed away in February of 1920. A daughter, Mrs. John (Mary) Nelson, died thirteen years ago. One boy died in infancy and another at the age of four years. Those left to mourn her death are Chris R., James, Peter, Albert, Mrs. Minnie Jacobsen, and Mrs. Sena Hansen all of Graettinger. Besides the sons and daughters mentioned there are twenty-eight grand children and eighteen great grand children. Many times during the past twelve months the writer has found it his duty to chronicle the passing away of aged men and women of our community. As this obituary is being written, the mind glances back at the distance years that have passed down the river of time and we realize how futile it is to sum up in a few brief sentences the life story of the loving self-sacrificing Christian mother whose hands are now folded so peaceful in death. The cares, the trials and the crosses of a long and useful life are all a part of the shadowed past. From this vale of tears, sorrow and suffering she has passed to him who guided her in every Christian duty and, as all true Christian believe, the reward of her earthly sacrifices will be eternal happiness. Mrs. Jensen's childhood days were spent in her beloved native land. The years of her health, strength and usefulness were spent in the land of her adoption. Like every so many thousands healthy, cheerful, virtuous women and girls who came from foreign shores she was an asset to our great country, and her good example and worthy life spread influences that would be felt in an every widening circle. The worthy men and women to whom she was known as mother to the day they were first taught to speak, now realize the full meaning of the word and it is so tenderly uttered. She was a dear, kind, loving mother and the devotion of her children to her speaks volumes for the splendid training they received in the tender years of their lives. Mrs. Jensen was a goodly woman, motherly, neighborly, and thoughtful at all times. She was a devoted Christian woman and observed dutiful and sincerely every obligation of her religious convictions. Her life book that is now closed is filled with good deeds. Her memory will linger tenderly forever in the minds and hearts of those who feel so sadly the pangs of separation. To the sorrowing sons and daughters the Times extends heartfelt sympathy.
