KUNKEL DIES AT THE AGE OF 77 FUNERAL TO BE HELD FRIDAY PIONEER RESIDENT OF THIS COUNTY PASSED AWAY TUESDAY MORNING Mrs. Christina Kunkel, a pioneer resident of Plymouth county, passed away at her home at 18 Sixth avenue S. E., Tuesday morning, at the age of 77 years, 1 month and 18 days. Heart failure and dropsy was the cause of her death. Mrs. Kunkel, nee Dickman, was born in Germany on November 25, 1847, and came to this country with her parents when she was 3 years of age. The family settled in the east and their next move was to Grant county, Wis. Here they lived until 1887, then moved to Plymouth county, Ia., settling on a farm east of LeMars. Deceased was married to Peter Kunkel at Dyersville, Ia., before coming to Plymouth county. In 1906, Mr. and Mrs. Kunkel moved to the city of Le Mars and Mrs. Kunkel has lived here ever since. Her husband passed away on March 13, 1911, at LeMars. She is survived by nine children and 55 grand children. Three children preceded her in death. Those who live to mourn her loss are: F. A. Kunkel, living southeast of LeMars; Mrs. H. J. Lanners, of Chipewa Falls, Wis.; Mrs. Nick Gergen, of LeMars; Mrs. Theodore Kass, LeMars; John E. Kunkel, of Farmer, S.D.; Val, Leo and Tony, of Adrian, Minn., and Joseph Kunkel, of LeMars. The funeral will be held Friday morning at 10 o'clock, from the St. Joseph's Catholic church. Burial will be made in the Catholic cemetery. Wiltgens' funeral parlors have charge of the funeral. *** Le Mars Semi Weekly Sentinel, IA, Friday, January 16, 1925, 11, c2 DEATH TAKES OLD SETTLER MRS. CHRISTINA KUNKEL WAS A RESIDENT HERE FOR PAST THIRTY-EIGHT YEARS Mrs. Christina Kunkel, a resident of Plymouth county for the past thirty-eight years, died at her home, 18 Sixth Avenue SE, this city, Tuesday afternoon, at the age of 77 years. Death was due to complication of diseases, the deceased having been a sufferer from asthma, dropsy, and other ailments. Mrs. Kunkel was a native of Germany but came with her parents to this country when she was three years old. She was born November 26, 1847. Her maiden name was Christina Digman, Her parents were early settlers in Grant county, Wisconsin, where she was united in marriage with Peter Kunkel. They lived in that county for sixteen years following their marriage and then moved to Iowa, and thirty-eight years ago came to Plymouth county which has been the family home ever since. Mr. and Mrs. Kunkel settled on a farm east of Le Mars where they farmed successfully for a number of years and then retired nineteen years ago and came to Le Mars to make their home. Mr. Kunkel died March 13, 1911. Mrs. Kunkel leaves to mourn her death six sons and three daughters who are: F. A. Kunkel, Marion township; Mrs. Henry Lanners, Chippewa Falls, Wis.; Mrs. Nicholas Gergen, Le Mars; Jos. Kunkel, Le Mars; J. E. Kunkel, Farmer, S. D.; Valentine, Leo and Anton Kunkel, of Adrian, Minn.; and Mrs. Theo Kass, of Le Mars. She also leaves fifty-four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The funeral services will be held this morning at ten o'clock at St. Joseph's church in this city. Mrs. Kunkel was a loving wife and mother, and lived a long and useful life, devoting herself to her family and home. She was a good friend and neighbor and was highly esteemed by all who knew her.
