Description	:	Funeral services were held last Friday, July 10, at the Deep Creek Lutheran Church in the Moenville Community for Mrs. Christine Grotta. Mrs. Grotta died at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip July 7, following a short illness. Preceding the church services a short service was held at the Mark Marrington home for relatives and close friends. Rev. Peterson Memorial Hospital in Philip July 7, following a short illness. Preceding the church services a short service was held at the Mark Marrington home for relatives and close friends. Rev. Myhrwold of Midland, pastor of the Deep Creek congregation, conducted the services and special music was furnished by Pastor and Mrs. Mhyrwold. Pallbearers were her grandson; John, Philip, Bill, and Bobby Patton, sons of Mrs. Mabel Patton, Leo and Lyle Patton, sons of Mr. and Mrs. William Patton. Interment was in the Deep Creek Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home of Philip and funeral director was Bill Sorenson of Murdo. Christine Mittet was born April 15, 1863 in Mittet, Romsdalen, Norway to John and Marit Mittet, the third of seven children. At the age of 15 years she was confirmed into the Lutheran Church at Mitter, Norway, where she remained a member until she came to America at the age of 27 years. In 1897 she was united in marriage to Ole Grotta at Sioux City, Iowa. They moved to Kingsbury County in SD in the same year. To this union three daughters were born. The family moved to the Moenville community of Haakon County in 1908 where they homesteaded. She has been a member of the Deep Creek Lutheran Church since its beginning. Since the death of her husband in 1937, she has made her home with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Marrington. On June 18 she fell, substaining injuries which confined her to bed. She was hospitalized at the Hans P. Peterson Memorial hospital in Philip on June 26, where she passed away on July 7, 1959 at the age of 96 years, 2 months and 22 days. Grandma Grotta, as she was known to everyone, enjoyed an active life until the past three weeks. She was busy knitting, reading her Bible, doing small household tasks and was always devoted to the work of God throughout her entire life. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one sister, four brothers and two granchildren. In her passing she leaves to mourn three daughters, Sophia, Mrs. Mark Marrington of Milesville; Olga, Mrs. William Patton of Milesville; Mrs. Mabel Patton of Philip; one brother Oluf of Sioux City, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; other relatives in Norway and America and a host of friends. Among relatives from a distance attending the services Friday were a brother and sister-in-law, Mr and Mrs Oluf Mittet of Sioux City, Iowa; a cousin Edwin Grotta of DeSmet and Mrs Curtis Peterson, also DeSmet.
