The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, October 29, 1998; pg. 1 ===== Clara (Barta) Mazour was born January 25, 1907, on the family farm of Joseph H. and Rosa (Hynek) Barta. She was the youngest of ten children. Clara passed away Monday, October 26, 1998 at Milder Manor in Lincoln, Nebraska, at the age of 91 years, 10 months, and 1 day. She attended Blue River Grade School District 27 and completed two years at Deweese High School. Clara moved to Deweese with her parents in 1920. Clara was a member of Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church as well as the Altar Society of which she was a past president. February 19, 1926, she was married to James Mazour in Our Lady of Assumption Church in Deweese, Nebraska, by Father Francis Cadek. To this united couple, four daughters were born: Margaret, Kathryn, Cecelia, and infant daughter, Mary, deceased December 20, 1944. Clara and family lived on three different farms in Nuckolls County before moving to Nelson on March 1, 1968. She was an active homemaker, enjoying gardening, sewing, baking and crocheting. She worked at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Nelson for six years. Clara was active in church work as a member of the Nelson Altar and Rosary Society. Preceding her in death were her parent (sic); husband, James, July 9, 1995; infant daughter, Mary; four brothers, Joseph Barta and three in infancy; five sisters, Bessie Klauz, Rose Stichka, Mary Dobesh, Alice Mazour, and Helen Janda. Survivors include three daughters, Margaret Hattan and her husband Hubert of Concordia, Kansas; Kathryn Murtaugh and her husband Patrick, and Cecilia Mazour, all of Lincoln, Nebraska; 12 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral service were held Friday, October 30, 1998, at 11 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nelson, Nebraska, with Father Frank Machovec officiating. Interment was in Nelson Cemetery. Congregational hymns of "Let There Be Peace On Earth", "Amazing Grace", and "How Great Thou Art" were sung with Jim Spirk as organist. Pallbearers were Greg Hattan, Mike Hattan, Richard Hattan, Jerry Murtaugh, Ron Murtaugh, and Mike Murtaugh, Klawitter-Price Funeral Home of Nelson was in charge of the arrangements.
