Description	:	Clara Jane Barnett Rowell was born December 29, 1869, near Holton, Kans., and passed away at her home 826 New Jersey, Holton, Kans., at 10:00 a.m., February 26, 1951, at the age of 81 years, 1 month and 28 days. She was of a family of five children Emeline, Lucy, Belle, Clara and Cora. Emeline, Lucy and Cora preceded her in death. She was the daughter of William D. and Narcissus Barnett. Read More	Clara Jane Barnett Rowell was born December 29, 1869, near Holton, Kans., and passed away at her home 826 New Jersey, Holton, Kans., at 10:00 a.m., February 26, 1951, at the age of 81 years, 1 month and 28 days. She was of a family of five children Emeline, Lucy, Belle, Clara and Cora. Emeline, Lucy and Cora preceded her in death. She was the daughter of William D. and Narcissus Barnett. In 1854 her father became the first settler in Muscotah, Kansas, naming the town. In 1864 he located on a farm in Straight Creek Township. In 1866 he was chosen Superintendent of Public Instruction of Jackson County. When she grew to young womanhood she attended the Drake School and assisted her father in the nursery which was the largest in the county. She joined the Methodist Church in young womanhood. She was united in marriage to Charles Henry Miller, February 1, 1887, at Holton, Kans. They began housekeeping 4 1/2 miles southeast of Holton, where she resided until 1920. Rearing a family of nine children, six sons and three daughters. Her husband Charles H. Miller, preceded her in death, January 14, 1915, a son Walter E., March 10, 1916, a daughter, Mrs. Ethel M. Graves, November 29, 1932, and two grand daughters, Goldie Irene Miller, March 30, 1929, and Helen May Graves, January 7, 1949. Also three half-brothers, Samuel, William and Albert and one half-sister, Mrs. Joe Loper, preceded her in death. On March 2, 1920, she was united in marriage to Frank W. Rowell at Holton, Kansas. They moved to a farm 4 1/2 miles northwest of Holton, where they resided until December, 1944 when they moved to Holton. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother and a good and kind neighbor, always willing and ready to lend a hand in need of help. Those whose survive are her husband, Frank W. Rowell, her sister, Mrs. Belle Campbell of Holton, her seven children, 24 grandchildren and 41 great grandchildren. The children and families: Clarence H., Pasadena, Calif.; Fred D., Kansas City, Kansas; Albert W., Circleville; Irvin C., Holton; Frank A., Manhattan; Cora E., now Mrs. Fred Fernkopf, Circleville; Katherine, now Mrs. Adolph Keidel, Venice, Calif.; and one son-in-law, James H. Graves, Venice, Calif. Funeral Services were held from the Mercer Funeral Home Wednesday, February 28, 1951, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Siever in charge. Interment was in the Holton Cemetery. The pall bearers were grandsons, Clyde and Warren Fernkopf, Albert Lane Miller, Irvin Charles Miller, and two granddaughter's husbands, Carl Frakes and Marion Wood.
