CLARA BEALS Baxter New Era: Mrs. Clara (Jeffers) Beals passed away at her home in Baxter, Sunday, July 12, at the age of 75 years, 4 months and 1 day. She had been in failing health for the past six months, but was taken bedfast only last Friday, from which she never recovered. Mrs. Beals was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Beals, on Dec. 3, 1940: also one son Dale, and two children at infancy. She leaves to mourn her passing seven daughters and three sons: Mrs. Bert Cross, Mrs. Al Boutelle and Mrs. Clarence Von Hager, of Baxter; Mrs. Minnie Dodd and Mrs. Arthur Long of Des Moines; Mrs. Will Shenkle of St. Anthony, and Mrs. Oscar Morris of Kasson, Minn.; Jay Beals and Donald Beals of Colfax and Stanley Beals of Collins. She also leaves a number of grandchildren, great grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted at the Community Congregational Church in Baxter July 15 at 2 p.m., with Rev. B. W. Northrup officiating. OBITUARY - Newton Daily News - Monday, July 20, 1942 - Baxter — Mrs. Clara (Jeffers) Beals died at her home in Baxter on Sunday, July 12, 1942, at the age of 75 years, four months and one day. She was born in Ohio in 1867, and at the age of four years came with her parents to Jasper county, where she spent the remainder of her life. Mrs. Beals has been in failing health for the past several years, but her condition had been much improved until the last few months. She suffered a paralytic stroke on Friday, July 10, from which she never recovered. Her children, with the exception of one daughter, Mrs. Oscar Morris of Hasson, Minn., were at her bedside. Her husband, Richard Beals, preceded her in death Dec. 3, 1940, a1so one son, Dale, who died in 1931, and two children, who died in infancy. She leaves to mourn her passing seven daughters and three sons: Mrs. Bert Cross, Mrs. Al Bontelli, and Mrs. Clarence Vonhagen of Baxter; Mrs. Minnie Dodd and Mrs. Arthur Long of Des Moines; Mrs. Will Shenkle, of St. Anthony; Mrs. Oscar Morris of Kasson, Minn.; Jay Beals and Donald Beals of Colfax; and Stanley Beals of Collins; also 40 grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren; and three brothers: Walter Jeffers of Colo, Ia.; Tom Jeffers of California; and Charley Jeffers of Nebraska. Mrs. Beals was a member of the Methodist church at Ira, and although for some years the condition of her health did not permit her to attend church services, she kept her faith until the end. Funeral services were conducted at the Baxter Community Congregational church Wednesday, July 15 at 2 p.m. Rev. B.W. Northrop had charge of the services. Music was furnished by Mrs. Arthur Dodd and Mrs. Cecil Weeks with Mrs. Ed Goodwin organist. Those serving as pallbearers were Sid Weston, Lea Gearhart, John L Kimberley, Frank Bego, C.A. Noah and O.E. Cunningham. Burial was at Union Chapel near Ira.
