Altoona Herald - Thursday, December 1, 1921 - Jacob C Jeffers was born in Harrison County, Ohio January 27, 1839 and departed this life November 23, 1921 at 3:15 pm at his home in Altoona. He was the son of Joseph Jeffers and Elizabeth McCombs. On December 17, 1870 he was united in marriage to Emily J Adams & to this union 10 children were born; 3 proceeding him to the great beyond: Hugh, Lottie, and Emma. His wife and 7 children survive: Clifford of Milford, Utah; Kitty, Celesta, Edith, Earl, Pirl, and Belle Jeffers of Altoona; 5 grandchildren; 4 brothers and 3 sisters. After his marriage he moved to Phillip, Nebraska in 1872 spending 29 years on the plains and then moved to Altoona in 1904. He was a member of the Baptist church in Chapman, Nebraska. He was a charter member of the Masonic Lodge at Chapman, Nebraska, afterwards changing his membership to King David Lodge at Altoona, Iowa. He was also a member of life G.A.R. Post at Altoona, Iowa. He served three years in the Civil War, Co. A 100 Ohio Volunteer Regiment. He was a devoted husband, kind and loving father and a patriotic citizen. The funeral service was held from the home Friday afternoon, November 25th 1921 at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Stevenson of the Methodist church, after which the body was taken, in charge and escorted to the cemetery by the Masonic order and consigned to the grave under the burial service of that order.
