Description	:	Clarence Staum, 87, of Elk Point died Sunday, Dec. 13, 1998, at his residence following a lengthy illness. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in rural Elk Point, with the Rev. Mary Feistner officiating. Burial will be in Elk Point Cemetery. Visitation will be noon to 9 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Anderson Funeral Home in Elk Point. Mr. Staum was born Oct. 16, 1911, near Elk Point, the son of Casper and Anna (Ulvog) Staum. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He graduated from Elk Point High School in 1930 and attended National Business Training School in Sioux City. He was employed at the Princess and Capital Theaters for two years. He married Yvonne Bosse of Jefferson, S.D., on Aug. 31, 1933. The couple farmed in the Elk Point area for 47 years. Following their retirement, they moved into Elk Point. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he was a trustee, the Rural Richland School Board, Farmers Elevator board, and Union County Farm Bureau, where he served as insurance agent and adjuster. He also helped organize the Dudes and Dolls Square Dance Club in Elk Point. He enjoyed camping and hunting. Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Dwayne and Erna of Medford, Ore., and Darmon and Kay of Elk Point; three grandchildren, Julie Moore, David Staum and Teresa Anderson; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Norma Ofstehage of Vermillion, S.D.; and a brother, Lt. Vern Staum, USA (retired) of Marietta, Ga. He was preceded in death by a brother, Art; a sister, Gladys Eggen; and a great-grandson.
