CLARENCE CARL TEGTMEIER Clarence Carl Tegtmeier was born June 29, 1913 to Carl Herman and Erma Sommerhalder Tegtmeier on a farm south of Lewiston. He departed this life on November 19, 1983 at Louisville, Kentucky at the age of 70 years, four months and 20 days. He received his schooling at District 25 and graduated for Lewiston High School. After graduating he remained with his parents, farming the land, which was to be his lifetime pursuit. He was married on June 14, 1941 to Doris Searcey of Lewiston They made their home south and east of Lewiston until 1947 when they moved to the home place after the death of Clarence's father. They became the parents of four children, Clarice Jean, Roger Melvin, Ronald Dean and Russell Larry. Clarence possessed many interests and talents that he expressed by engaging in a number of pursuits. He operated an earth-moving business, constructing terraces, waterways and dams for a number of years. He was a self-taught auctioneer and was one of the founders of the Beatrice 77 Livestock Co. in Beatrice, Ne. He was interested in improving varieties of seed corn, Paw-Nee Hybrids. He began a herd of registered Polled Hereford cattle in the early 1950's, and he and his sons continued to improve the quality of the herd as the years have passed. In his more recent years, every spring found him planting a huge garden, and later sharing his melon crop with the neighborhood. Clarence's warm personality was his gift to all who knew him. He loved to converse with his friends, whether the topic was crops, sports, politics, the weather or cattle. The last four days of his life were among his happiest. He and Doris were attending the National Polled Hereford Show in Louisville, Kentucky. He died peacefully as he slept during the early morning hours of Saturday, November 19, 1983. Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Erma Tegtmeier and two infant sisters He leaves to mourn his wife, Doris; his children Clarice, Roger, Ronald and Russell; their spouses and children; one brother, Oscar Tegtmeier and a sister Verna Light.
