Read More	McCARTNEY, CLARENCE EDWARD—Clarence E. McCartney of Geneva passed away at the Fillmore County hospital May 16, 1967, at the age of 87 years, 7 months and 27 days. He had been in poor health several weeks. Clarence Edward McCartney was born at the family home in Chelsea township east of Geneva to Francis and Elma Piersol McCartney, September 19, 1879. He grew to manhood on the farm. February 20, 1901, he was married to Nellie Belle Lynn at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Lynn, Chelsea township. To this union were born two daughters, Mrs. Hazel Hiatt and Mrs. Cliff (Arleane) Wilson of Geneva, and a son, Clarence Francis of Tarzana, Cal. Mr. McCartney farmed all his life until 1953, when he and Mrs. McCartney retired and moved to Geneva. Mr. McCartney was a member of the Geneva Masonic lodge, the Knights of Pythias of Milligan and the United Church of Christ, of Geneva. He was always interested in public affairs and he served about 20 years as a member of the Fillmore county board of supervisors, several years as chairman. Mr. McCartney was a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather. He and Mrs. McCartney observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1951 in Geneva. He is survived by his three children, 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, a daughter-in-law, Evelyn McCartney, a son-in-law, Cliff Wilson, a brother, Herbert McCartney of Marshall, Inc., a sister, Mrs. Alta Shickley of Sheridan, Wyo., nephews and nieces and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Nellie; a son-in-law, Dean Hiatt, a grandson, Donald Hiatt, four brothers and two sisters. Funeral services were held at 2 p. m. Friday, May 18, at the Kritner-Farmer funeral home in Geneva. Rev. Delano Spitzer officiated. Sheldon Johnson, accompanied by Mrs. Johnson, sang “In the Garden” and “The Lord’s Prayer.” Pallbearers were W. A. Biba, Frank Bures, Harold McDonald, Joe Turek, John Turek, and Fred Votipka. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery with the Masonic burial service being in the charge of the Geneva lodge. The Nebraska Signal 25 May 1967 page 9.
