Read More	McCARTNEY, NELLIE BELLE—Mrs. Clarence E. McCartney passed away at a hospital in Hebron, Neb., Friday, October 5, 1956, after an extended illness. She was aged 76 years, 9 months and 4 days. Nellie Belle Lynn was born December 31, 1879, in Glengary township to Andrew and Sarah Lynn, early Fillmore county settlers. She spent her youth there. February 20, 1901, she was married at the home of her parents to Clarence E. McCartney. They made their home on farms east of Geneva until three years ago, when they moved into town. To this union were born three children, Hazel, Mrs. Dean Hiatt; Arlene, Mrs. Clifford Wilson, both of Geneva, and Clarence Francis of Los Angeles, Cal. Her husband and children survive, also 13 grandchildren and 10 great-0grandchildren, two brothers, Bert Lynn of Geneva and Ed Lynn of Ohiowa, other relatives and many friends. She was a member of the congregational church, the Eastern Star chapter at Geneva and the Pythian Sisters of Milligan. She was active in these organizations, having filled numerous offices in each. She was a past worthy matron of the Eastern Star and a past chief of the Pythian Sisters. Mr. and Mrs. McCartney observed their golden wedding anniversary by holding an open house at the Geneva Congregational church in 1951. Funeral services were held at the First Congregational church in Geneva, at 2:30 p. m. Sunday, October 7, Rev. L. E. Werner officiated. Mrs. Gerald Pickerell sang “The Lord’s Prayer” and “In the Garden.” She was accompanied by Mrs. Willard Foster. Pallbearers were William Bures, Anton Hamouz, Russell Leaming, Dr. D. A. Portwood, Charles Sluka and Joseph Turek. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery. The Nebraska Signal 11 October 1956 page 9.
