Description	:	The son of Frederick and Caroline Schnathorst Petermeier, Clarence was born March 1, 1903 in Baxter. Mr. Petermeier graduated in 1923 from Baxter High School where he served as vice-president of the senior class and vice-president of the athletic association. He played basketball his junior and senior years. He was married to Florence Leona Saak on Feb. 20, 1929. They farmed east of Baxter. Clarence was a lifetime resident of the Baxter community, a member of the Congregational Christian Church, a member of the church board of trustees, and the men's club. Mr. Petermeier graduated in 1923 from Baxter High School where he served as vice-president of the senior class and vice-president of the athletic association. He played basketball his junior and senior years. He was married to Florence Leona Saak on Feb. 20, 1929. They farmed east of Baxter. Clarence was a lifetime resident of the Baxter community, a member of the Congregational Christian Church, a member of the church board of trustees, and the men's club. He was a member of Unit Lodge No. 520, A.F. & A.M. and served as Worshipful Master in 1957. Clarence was Secretary for three years and was serving as Lodge Treasurer at the time of his passing. Clarence died Monday, Oct. 1, 1962, at Skiff Memorial Hospital in Newton after suffering a heart attack at his home. He was survived by his wife, a daughter, Carol Jean (Mrs. Gary) Pyle of Baxter; three grandchildren; a brother, John Petermeier of Newton; five sisters, Ann (Mrs. Otis) Dodd, Nora (Mrs. S. C.) Quinlan, both of Marshalltown; Ida (Mrs. E. H) Carlson and Miss Lela Petermeier, both of Des Moines; and Doris (Mrs. Fred) Noyer of Tonawanda, N.Y. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Paul. Funeral services were held on Oct. 3, 1962, at 2 p.m. at the Congregational Christian Church. The Rev. T. A. Thompson, pastor of the church, conducted the services. Masonic graveside rites were conducted by Unit Lodge No. 520, A.F. & A. M. Interment was in Restland Cemetery. Mrs. Donnell Deutsch, organist, accompanied the soloist, Myron Swan. Serving as pallbearers were Charles Jontz, Howard Inglis, Donnell Deutsch, C. J. Butler, Lynn Meckley and Edward Pfile. Flowers were cared for by Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Hesson and Mrs. Hale Nickell. Boyd-Nickell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
