He passed away suddenly at his farm home early April 2, 1975 at the age of 82 years, 10 months, and 28 days. He was the last surviving member of a family of fourteen children, being preceded in death by four sisters: Martha, Rosella, Bertha, and Lula, and by nine brothers: Martin, John Christian, James, who died in infancy, Ernest, David, Waldo, Daniel, Roscoe, and Anda. Clarence was married to Ethel Wimmer March 15, 1916 and to this union four children were born. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1966 before Ethel preceded him in death on March 18, 1967. He was also preceded by his oldest son and daughter-in-law, Leo and Alice in January 1952. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Wilma and Warren Bloom of Ft. Collins, Colorado; his son and daughter-in-law, Warren and Laura of Mt. Etna, and his daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Henry Heaton of Brooks, also 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. On November 23, 1968 he was united in marriage to Fern Barrowcliff of West Branch. Besides his children, he leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Fern; step-daughter, Felicia Hope and four children of Coralville. There are also two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Mary Johnston and Mrs. Vinne Johnston, both of Corning. He was a member of the Church of the Brethren at Mt. Etna joining at an early age and was an active member until the time of his death. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge at Massena and also of Massena Chapter 429 O.E.S. Clarence lived his entire life in Washington Township engaged in farming until he retired. He was deeply devoted to his church and family and especially enjoyed his grandchildren. He was active in many community affairs, enjoyed being with people and sharing good music. All who knew him will miss his genial nature and concerns. Funeral services were held at the Church of the Brethren in Mt. Etna April 4 at 2:00 p.m. conducted by Rev. Elmer West and Rev. John Wagner. Interment was in the Mt. Etna Cemetery. Music was provided by Irene Abbey and Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Rogers. Pallbearers were Russell Ramsey, Randy Ramsey, Darrel Allison, Doug Allison, Dale Johnston, and Lynn Ryon. Honorary bearers were John Riegel, Vernon Boswell, Ivan Heaton, Gerald Wollenhaupt, Ivan Houser, Otis Ford, and Roy Mehlmann.
