Description	:	David Johnston, son of John and Catherine Johnston, was born in Harrison County, Missouri April 25, 1879 and departed this life at the Murphy Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa, May 15, 1949 at the age of 70 years and 20 days. Read More	David Johnston, son of John and Catherine Johnston, was born in Harrison County, Missouri April 25, 1879 and departed this life at the Murphy Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa, May 15, 1949 at the age of 70 years and 20 days. A heart attack on Saturday evening culminated in his death a few hours later. He came to Iowa with his parents when about one year old and spent almost his entire life in Adams County. In his early youth he was baptized and has ever since been a member of the Brethren Church of Mt. Etna. On September 3, 1902 he was married to Dora E. Ramsey, who passed away two years later. To this union one daughter, Mrs. Alma Livingston, was born. On November 28, 1906 he was united in marriage to Geneva Westfall and to this union seven children were born. One daughter, Mrs. Gladys Bickford, preceded him in death on August 8, 1947. Besides his wife, he is survived by seven children: Mrs. Alma Livingston of Nova, Ohio; Aletha of Lakewood, Ohio; Millard of Des Moines, Iowa; Marvin of Massena; Mrs. Eunice Beck of Bridgewater; and Dailey and Vonnie at home. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, six brothers, two sisters, and many other relatives. Having been apprenticed in carpentry when a young man, he followed that trade until the day of his death. While he lived on the sam farm which was his present home for thirty-seven years, through his trade he made many friends over a wide-spread area. He so endeared himself to his family and friends that he will be greatly missed. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Oliver Davison from the Brethren Church in Mt. Etna, Iowa Tuesday, May 17, at 2:30 p.m. Music was by Mrs. Walton Boswell and Mrs. John Dotson, accompanied by Mrs. Francena Barnes. Pall bearers were Mose Wilson, Fred Boswell, Paul Winkler, George Feazell, Hade DeVore, and Henry Kissler. Interment was made in the Mt. Etna Cemetery.
