Members of the family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 7 to 9 p.m. Clarence R. Laughrige was born March 12, 1897, in Fairfield. He was the son of Walker N. and Margaret F. Copeland Laughrige. He received his education in the Fairfield public schools, graduated from the Fairfield High School in 1916, and Parsons College in 1924. He received his MA degree at the University of Iowa in 1937 and did further graduate work at the University of Iowa and University of Colorado. Laughrige was a school administrator for 30 years at the following schools: Hilton Consolidated, Slater, Dunlap, and Lake City. From 1957 to 1963 he was with the Social Service Dept. at the Mental Health Institute at Mount Pleasant. He served in World War I and was a 50-year member of Allen Jewett Post No. 47 of American Legion, a member of the Presbyterian Church and Clinton Lodge AF and AM in Fairfield. On June 16, 1926, he was married to Bernice Benn at Birmingham. He is survived by his widow; one brother, Robert S. Laughrige, Bloomfield; and one nephew.
