CLARE DANIELS PASSED AWAY EARLY YESTERDAY MORNING At an early hour Saturday morning Mrs. Clare Daniels, of south of Stratford, was taken to the hospital at Boone and a few hours later was operated on for appendicitis. She came through the operation nicely and was doing well when peritonitis set in and her condition since has been very critical. Although every thing possible was done to sustain life, Mrs. Clare Daniels passed away at an early hour yesterday morning. The peritonitis which set in almost at once was the direct cause of her death. News of her death caused great sadness here where she was so well known and beloved. The people of the community extend their heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved husband, and little child and to the grief stricken parents, brother and sisters. Stratford Courier March 9, 1922 Clarice Amanda Peterson was born in this community September 12, 1895, and died in the hospital in Boone, March 1, 1922, being thus 26 years, 5 months and 17 days old. She was the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M.R. Peterson and was united in marriage to Clare Daniels Jan. 18, 1917. To them was born one child, a son, now three years old. Those who survive are her husband and little son, her parents, two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Watts of this place and Mrs. Myrtle Anderson of Jefferson, one brother, George Peterson of Stratford and an aged grandmother, Mrs. Fred Peterson, also of this place. Besides these, many host of friends mourn the passing of dearly beloved friend. Funeral services were held at the M.R. Peterson home and at the M.E. church here Friday afternoon and the remains were tenderly laid to rest in the South Marion Cemetery, Revs. W.F. Cole of Des Moines and F.W. Wilson of Stratford conducting the services. It is beyond human understanding why so young a woman should be called from this life at 26 years. She had not a thought that was not a gentle one, not one that did not hold all the world in the arms of its kindliness. And she was sorely needed here by a small son and by a bereaved husband. She was the light of a company of relatives and friends, and that light has gone out. To them she was what the sunshine is to the world and this eclipse to them brings both darkness and chill. Her funeral was pathetic beyond expression for not one as the last goodbyes were said felt that a loss has been sustained for which there is no compensation. May time bring its resignation, and may the shores of eternity that receives her soul, surround it with everlasting sunshine and flowers. Vainly groping after the Infinite meanings we cry: Why should so precious, so necessary a life be taken? The old, old question which will never be answered till the veil of our mortal vision be rent by Immortality, and we see, not as now, darkly, but face to face. Then also may we behold the heavenly mansion, which perhaps she was called thither, thus early, to help prepare for her beloved ones.
