Stewart Brown of the First Presbyterian Church in charge. Miss Joyce Echternach sang one solo, “The Lord’s Prayer”, accompanied by Mrs. Sylvia Gunn at the piano. The flower committee was composed of Mrs. Howard Williams, Mrs. Paul Beckwith, Mrs. August Johnson and Mrs. H. J. Pierce. Pallbearers were August Johnson, Fred J. Redeker, Howard Williams, L. F. Life Sketch Esther Matilda Steinfeldt Peterson was born in Galesburg, Illinois on November 13, 1867, one of 12 children born to Adolph and Emily Steinfeldt. In childhood, she came with her family to a farm near Stratford. On Dec. 20, 1888, she was united in marriage to Marcus R. Peterson and the couple moved to the L. F. Peterson farm, ten miles north of Boone, which was homesteaded by the Petersons before the Civil War. Mr. And Mrs. Peterson were the parents of four children: three daughters, Mrs. Dwight P. Anderson of Boone, Mrs. Fred A. Watts of Klamath Falls, Ore., and Mrs. Clair Daniels, who passed away in 1922; and one son, George Peterson of Knoxville. The Petersons moved to Stratford in 1911, where Mr. Peterson passed away on January 11, 1936. In 1939, Mrs. Peterson moved to the Courtney Apartments in Boone where she passed away following a cerebral hemorrhage at 4 a.m. on April 20 at the age of 81 years, five months and seven days. Mrs. Peterson was confirmed in the Lutheran Church in 1882, and was active in the South Marion Methodist Church until she moved to Boone when she became a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Being confined to a wheel chair the last three years she was unable to attend church, but continued her interest in the Presbyterian Women’s organization. Surviving besides the two daughters and one son, are two brothers, August and Arthur Steinfeldt, both of Boone; one sister, Mrs. Edgar Hall of Wheatland, Wyo., and grandchildren, Dwight P. Anderson, Jr., of Anaheim, Calif.; Robert W. Anderson of Leland Stanford University; Mrs. Max Menti of Klamath Falls, Ore.; Lewis W. Peterson of Stratford; Mrs. Richard Christiansen of Algona, and Norman Daniels of Des Moines, who made his home with his grandparents until he entered World War II. Another grandson, Robert Watts, lost his life in World War II. There are seven great grandchildren.
