He was born Oct. 24, 1915, in Alkali, Mont., the son of Gilson Raymond and Gertrude Grace Jones Norris. He graduated from Lawrence High School. He moved to Independence, Mo., in 1995. He worked for Armour and Co., Kansas City, Kan., in the accounting department. He and three brothers formed Norris Bros., a mechanical and electrical construction business, where he served as president and CEO from 1946 to 1984. He was a member and high priest of the RLDS church. He served as pastor, district bishop's agent and district president. The Chihowa Retreat Center was developed under his leadership. He was a life member of Sertoma and was president in 1958. He was named Sertoman of the Year in 1980. He served on the Lawrence Human Relations Commission and the Comprehensive Planning Citizens Advisory Committee. He was a member of the Knife and Fork Club. Mr. Norris was named Volunteer of the Year by the Roger Hill Volunteer Center. He married Dorothy A. Nunemaker on Aug. 27, 1937, in Lawrence. She survives of the home. Other survivors include three daughters, Carol Vincent, Indianapolis, Linda Kohlman, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Marjorie Darling, Oak Grove, Mo.; two sons, Larry R., Independence, Mo., and James R., Olathe; three brothers, Waldon, Gerald and Donald, all of Lawrence; four sisters, Lorraine Yeubanks, Tulsa, Okla., Donna Sintz, Charlotte, N.C., and Lois Brewster and Janice Fountain, both of Independence, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
