Clifford Michael Hardesty, 79 years of age, of Alma, passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2016, at CHI - Health Good Samaritan in Kearney, Nebraska. He was born August 13, 1937 in Lincoln, Nebraska, the second of two sons to Willard Jackson and Margaret Eleanor (Rohan) Hardesty. As a young boy, Clifford was baptized and later confirmed at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Lincoln. He received his primary education from Park Elementary School and graduated from Lincoln High School, with the class of 1955. On September 7, 1955, Clifford was inducted into the United States Army at Omaha, Nebraska. He was a decorated Rifle Marksman, served overseas, and was honorably discharged July 8, 1957. He then continued to serve in the United States Army Reserves until September 6, 1961. Clifford worked for Burlington Railroad in the late 1950’s and later took a job with General Telephone & Electric Corporation in 1955, where he remained until his retirement in 1994. Clifford worked chiefly as a Telephone System Installer and his work took him to many states for over 10 years. It was in California, that Cliff met Kathy, his future wife. On June 12, 1971, Clifford was united in marriage to Marjorie Kathleen “Kathy” Price at the Presbyterian Church in Apple Valley, California and to this union two children were born: Kelly and Jason. Together, Clifford and Kathy raised Jason, along with Kathy’s children from a previous marriage: Colleen, Joan, and David. Cliff, Kathy and their children lived in Hesperia, California while he worked as an installer, repairman and then, as a superintendent. After Cliff’s retirement, he and Kathy returned to his home state of Nebraska in 1995. Clifford was a member of the Fay Cady American Legion Post #118 and the First Christian Church both of Alma. He enjoyed many things including: fishing, golfing, his community and friends, Cornhusker football, gardening, a good game of Cribbage, woodworking, and raising show pigeons. His ready sense of humor and his sparkling eyes were always in good supply. Besides his father and mother, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Kelly, in infancy and his brother, Jerald Lee Hardesty. He is survived by his wife, Kathy, of Alma; daughters: Colleen Doster of Lake Havasu City, Arizona and Joan Strom of Los Osos, California; sons: David Dailey and wife, Betty of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Jason Hardesty of Seattle, Washington; five grandchildren; sister-in-law, Judy Ward of Mesquite, Nevada; and a host of other relatives and many friends. There was no visitation or memorial book signing as the family is honoring Clifford’s wish for cremation. A memorial has been established in Clifford’s honor and kindly suggested to the First Christian Church in Alma. Expressions of caring and kindness can be sent to the family at www.nelsonbauerfh.com.
