Description	:	Clyde R. Manatt, son of John and Mary Ellen Price Manatt was born four miles east of Brooklyn on the farm June 5, 1879. He attended the Carnsforth school known as Hazel Green where he completed the eighth grade, after which he entered the Brooklyn school but only went for a short time. Manatt, son of John and Mary Ellen Price Manatt was born four miles east of Brooklyn on the farm June 5, 1879. He attended the Carnsforth school known as Hazel Green where he completed the eighth grade, after which he entered the Brooklyn school but only went for a short time. He grew to manhood on the farm assisting his father with the farm work. He was one of a family of eight children, five boys and three girls. On March 21, 1900 was united in marriage to Francis McClellan of Carnsforth at the home of the bride's brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Rice at Standwood, Ia., with the Rev. C. K. Hudson, pastor of the Methodist Church officiating. One daughter, Gwendolyn, was born of this union. During his long life he spent a number of years farming. He and Mrs. Manatt operated restaurants in Brooklyn, Standwood and Cascade. Much of the rest of his life was spent as a salesman. Before going to the hospital on Easter Sunday he had been caring for Mrs. Manatt giving her every needed attention. On Easter Sunday he and Mrs. Manatt were taken to the Memorial hospital in Marengo, which she was able to leave April 21 when she was taken to the Goeke nursing home in Montezuma. Mr. Manatt remained in the hospital until Monday morning May 2nd when he passed away. Besides his wife and daughter, Gwendolyn, Mrs. Willis Ryan, of Brooklyn, he is survived by two grandchildren Billy Ryan of Ames and Sharon Ryan of Gunnison, Colo; two sisters Mrs. Bertha Graves of Winterset, Mrs. Clara Nelson of Redlands, Calif.; and one brother, Jay Manatt of Brooklyn; many nieces and nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mrs. Imo Clark and three brothers Frank, John and Charlie Manatt. Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon in the McAninch chapel. He served for a time as deputy sheriff and was assessor in Warren township. They celebrated their 50th and 60th anniversaries.
