Description	:	Cora Alice Patterson was born on March 31,1896 to J. W. and Hana DeSart at Lake City. She grew to womanhood in Lake City and attended Cedar Falls College, where she received a teaching certificate. While teaching at a country school in Jolley, she met and married Thomas Patterson at Sac City on March 31, 1918. A year later they moved to a farm west of Marathon. They became active members of the community. Cora was active in many capacities in the Methodist Church, teaching Sunday School, Bible School, organizing church dinners and social activities. She was active in Extension Club, Lee Community Club, and Eastern Star. To Cora her life was her family, her home, her community, sharing the garden, food preparation, baking, crafts, inspiration, love and helping others. Isabel Norton was talking about Cora when she wrote, "Those we hold most dear never truly leave us, they live on in the kindnesses they showed, the comfort they shared and the love they brought into our lives." Preceding Cora in death were her parents, her husband Thomas, four brothers, eight sisters, a son Dean, and a sonin- law Major Marvin Adams. Cora was the last member of the J. W. DeSart family.
