She had been in failing health for years but the sickness which removed her was of short duration and came quite unexpectedly. She was a daughter of J. Read More	Henry county, Mrs. cornelia Fickel, passed from this earthly to the heavenly home last Friday, June 5, 1914, at about noon, at the old family residence northwest of this city. She had been in failing health for years but the sickness which removed her was of short duration and came quite unexpectedly. She was a daughter of J. W. and Dorcas Ford and was in Henry Co., Iowa, March 30, 1849 being at the time of her death 65 years, 2 months and 4 days of age. She was juined in marriage to Mr. J. L. Fickel, January 1, 1870. They began life together the possessors of ten acres of land, the spot where they have always lived, where their children were born, where their friends loved to visit them, and where the wife died. Their ten acres by dint of hard work and careful management grew to two hundred and seventy. Nine children were given to brighten the home. three are deceased, Annie and Minnie who died in infancy, and Mary E. Harper, Who died in young womanhood, leaving a husband and two lads to mourn her decease. Those living are Leroy Fickel, St. Jo, Mo., William P., George E., and Mrs. Alice Miller, all living near the home place; Mrs. Emma Allender, North Platte, Nebr.; and Mrs Bessie Montgomery, Aurora, Ill. Four granddaughters and five grandsons also survive. All were by her side during the last illness. Mrs. Fickel was a christian woman, having been converted in the old church that stood on the Elijah Black corner on the Trenton and Mt. Pleasant road in her early girlhood. For many years, owing to bodily aliments, she was unable to attend church services but her faith in Christ Jesus remained steady to the end. She was ready for the summons. Funeral services conducted by Frank E, Weston, pastor of the First Baptist church Mt. Pleasant, were held on Sunday afternoon, in Benjamin chapel Richwoods. A brief service was held at the home before the company left for the church. The chapel was crowded to the doors and many were compelled to stand outside for want of room. A choir consisting of Meadames Martin and Mahion Harsharger, Messrs . Skipton and Mahlon Harshbarger, and Miss ruth Brown sang suitable hymns. Miss edna Curtis was accompanist. The funeral sermon was preached from I Cor. 15:57 and was listened to with close attention. The floral pieces were beautiful and expressive. The large congregation felt deeply the loss the community had sustained. Many were present from this city. The remains were laid to rest in the cemetery adjoining the chapel. The bereaved husband and his sorrowing children have the hearty sympathy of many in their sorrow.
