MILLIANE PASSED AWAY SUDDENLY Cornelius Milliane, one of the well known old residents of Fairfield, died suddenly last evening between six and seven o'clock at his home on West Kirkwood street. He had been in ill health for several years but his relatives were in no way prepared for his death and the shock to them is a great one. Mr. Millaine had been feeling badly for several days and yesterday a son, John Millaine (sic.) of Blackhawk township, came in to stay with him for a few days. The father walked around the house and talked and visited with his son and during the conversation expressed a fear that he might die alone. When the son told him that he was going to remain with him the older man seemed perfectly satisfied. Mir. Milliane had lived alone for several years and about the supper hour the son became convinced that his father did not feel as well as he thought and hastened to the city for a physician. It was while the son was away that his father breathed his last. Mr. Millaine was born in County Killearney, Ireland, April 26, 1836, and came to America when he was ninteen (sic.) years of age. In January, 1861, he was married to Miss Hannah Hassett in Galena, Ill., and to them were born eleven children, four of whom have preceeded Mr. Millaine in death, and Mrs. Millaine died in 1895. The family moved to Jefferson county in October, 1879, and located on a farm northwest of this city. This was their home until Mr. Millaine moved to Fairfield about seven years ago. Seven children survive. They are as follows: James Milliane of Wymore, Neb., Frank of Blue Springs, Neb., Mrs. J. A. Barch (sic. likely a typo; Annie/Anna Laurel Millane Bartch Anna L Bartch , wife of James A Bartch) of Mason City; Cornelius of Saltello, Mexico; Mrs. Dan Murphy and John Millaine of near this city and Mrs. Thomas Dwyer who resides on West Kirkwood street in Fairfield. Funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at ten o'clock at St. Mary's Catholic church and the remains will be laid to rest in Evergreen cemetery. ------------- Note: Children of Cornelius Millane and Hannah Hassett Millane: - Of the 11 children referred to in the obituary for Cornelius, and in a tentative 1989 family group sheet compiled by Verda Baird, the exact names and DOB/DOD for four children are not accounted for. Of those otherwise listed, they are either linked or their whereabouts not known. Census reports found for this family tend to match the birth order, with the exception of Anna/Annie Laurel Millane Bartch, whose census reports tend to use 1869 for her DOB, but her memorial uses June 30, 1874.
