The son of Macy Kipling and Leona Hyle Wells, he was born March 12, 1927, in Emporia, KS. Read More	HAROLD KIPLING "KIP" WELLS Harold Kipling "Kip" Wells, age 86, of rural Elmdale, KS, died Saturday, December 14, 2013, at his home. The son of Macy Kipling and Leona Hyle Wells, he was born March 12, 1927, in Emporia, KS. He graduated from Elmdale High School in 1945 and from Washburn University School of Law with a Doctorate in Juris Prudence. He served, in the United States Army, as an airplane and engine mechanic 747, and was discharged, with the rank of Corporal, in 1946. He and Barbara J. Chapman were married August 15, 1947, in her parents' home in Elmdale. He owned his own private law practice in Kansas City for 25 years and then he was an attorney for the Department of the Interior in the state of Alaska for two years. He was an entrepreneur all of his life. In his retirement, he spent many working hours at his business, The Trading Post, in Elmdale. He was a lifelong private plane pilot. He was a member of the Elmdale United Methodist Church and served on the Board of Trustees several times. He served on the Elmdale Cemetery Board, was President of the Middle Creek Watershed Board for 17 years, and was a Chase County Commissioner. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Zeredatha #60 A.F. & A.M. and the local American Legion Post until it disbanded. He was a lifelong Republican and served as Chairman of the Kansas Day Committee. He is survived by his wife, of the home; a son, Harold Kipling Wells, II, and his wife, Sherry, of Elmdale; a daughter, Janna G. Hancock and her husband, Paul, of Strong City; six grandchildren: Kipling Macey Wells and his wife, Heather, Melanie Ann Brown and her husband, Mike, Bradley C. Wells and his wife, Traci, Patricia M. Falwell, Cody R. Falwell, and Laura I. Anderson and her husband, Aaron; 12 great grandchildren: Brooklyn Falwell, Zach, Alicia, and Drew Brown, Brooke Wells, Robin Covington, Luke Wells, Kenzie Anderson, Morgan Anderson, Madi Smedra, and Elijah and Noah Anderson. He was preceded in death by his parents. A celebration of life service will be held Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at 1:00 P.M., at the Elmdale United Methodist Church with officiant, The Rev. Kim Shank. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Elmdale Cemetery. The family will meet friends Tuesday, from 6:00 until 7:00 P.M., at the church. Friends may come to the funeral home Tuesday, from 10:00 A.M. until 4:30 P.M. Memorial contributions to the Elmdale United Methodist Church, Elmdale Cemetery Association, or Christian Mission Ministry may be sent in care of the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home, 201 Cherry St., Cottonwood Falls, KS 66845.
