Inurnment followed at the Alma Cemetery in Alma. Dale Gene Skiles, 88 years of age, of Alma, passed away on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell, Nebraska. Dale was born on December 4, 1929, near Naponee, Nebraska, the eldest of two sons, born to Harold and Rose (Bauerle) Skiles. In 1933, the family moved closer to Huntley, Nebraska, so the boys could attend Huntley Public Schools. Dale graduated from Huntley High School, with the class of 1949. Dale enlisted into the United States Army National Guard in 1951. After his basic training, he was stationed at Ft. Knox, Kentucky and served as a First Lieutenant. Dale continued to serve in the Army National Guard in Holdrege until 1962. On September 12, 1953, Dale was united in marriage to Helen Maxine Gillock of Louisville, Kentucky at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church near Republican City, Nebraska. They made their home on the family farm north of Alma. He enjoyed farming, helping with 4-H projects and the county fair. Dale was preceded in death by his father in 1984, and his mother in 2000. He is survived by; his loving wife, Maxine Skiles; daughter, Rhonda Skiles; and his granddaughter, Heather, all of Alma; his brother, Lyle Skiles and his wife, Elaine of Franklin, Nebraska; three nieces: Teri Jelken and her husband, Dennis of Macon, Nebraska; Marcia Schriner and her friend, Gordy of Red Cloud, Nebraska; and Anita O’Neill and her husband, Kevin of Gretna, Nebraska; one nephew, Blaine Skiles and his wife, Kathy of Lincoln, Nebraska; along with many great-nieces, great-nephews, numerous great-great-nieces & great-great-nephews, extended family and many friends. The family has honored Dale’s wish for cremation. There was no visitation or memorial book signing. In lieu of flowers or cards; the family kindly suggests memorials be sent to the American Cancer Society or to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
