He lived there until the age of three when the family moved to the Joseph Washington Logan homestead, two and one-half miles north of Havelock, where he grew to manhood. Darius attended Havelock Community School all twelve grades, graduating in May 1940. At the outbreak of World War II, at the age of 19, was Drafted into the Army and sent to Camp Dodge, Des Moines, Iowa, January, 1943. Before leaving Camp Dodge he transferred to the Air Force and was sent to Miami Beach, Fla., for basic training. He received further training at Lowery Field and Buckley Field, Denver, Colorado. He was sent to Grand Island, Nebraska, before being sent overseas. Darius picked up final briefings and assigned bomber for the flight to England. Weather conditions changed plans with crews transferred to Camp Kilmer, New Jersey, and sent overseas on the Queen Mary. Upon arrival to England, Darius was assigned to the 305th Bomb Group, 8th Air Force, joining them in November 1943. Missions over Germany and German Occupied Territories began in December. He completed 21 missions over enemy territory before being shot down and landing in Ghent, Belgium, in March 1944. Darius lived with families of the Belgian Underground for the six months he was missing in action. He returned to the United States and arrived in Havelock for a 30-day leave, November 11, 1944. He returned to Lowery Field, later transferring to Buckley Field, Denver Colorado, in January 1945. Darius met and married Genevieve Cordova while working in the same department at the Hospital Unit at Buckley Field. They were married at Plymouth Congregational Church, Denver, Colorado, June 1945, and transferred to Independence, Kansas until his discharge in August of 1945. Upon returning to Havelock, Darius worked with his father, Adrian C. Logan, as an electrician. He then attended Commercial Trade Institute, Chicago, Illinois, receiving training for auto body repairing and graduated December, 1948. He worked for Norman Motor Company in Spirit Lake as an auto body mechanic Sloan's Body Shop in Rockwell City before returning to Havelock in May of 1951, to start his own business, Havelock Body Service. The family consisted of two children. Carol Ann Logan Campidilli, born April 6, 1946, at Emmetsburg, Iowa. Carol attended Havelock Plover Community School, graduating in May 1964. She attended St. Luke's School of Nursing, Sioux City, Iowa, graduating in 1967. She married James T. Campidilli, January 1968. They are living in Ankeny, Iowa, and Carol is employed by Younkers Rehabilitation Center, Methodist Hospital, Des Moines, Iowa. They have three children: Laura Lynn (Aug. 6, 1968), Stacy Kay (June 4, 1971), and Jaymee Marie (Feb. 11, 1975). Gerard Marcel Logan was born February 11, 1949, at Emmetsburg, Iowa. He also attended Havelock-Plover community School, graduating in May 1967. He attended the University of Northern Iowa for one year before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force for four years. He met and Married Cathie Ann Collins of Waukon, Iowa, June 27, 1970. Upon his completion of service in the Air Force, he returned to working for the Chicago and North Wester Railroad at Eyota, Minnesota. He is presently working with the C&NW Railroad in Chicago, Illinois, and living in Boling Brook. They have three children: Heather Cathleen (July 30, 1972). Bridget Carey (Nov. 20, 1976), and Alexander Collins (Oct. 6, 1977.) Author Unknown (most likely Darry himself) [Note: Darry's son Gerard Marcel "Gerry" was named after sons of Louis and Marth Wauters, the 2nd Belgian family who hide Darry from Nazis until D-day. ~kaschu] Darry had Leg Bypass Surgery in the early 1980's. Tragically, he contacted leukemia from a blood transfusion and passed away in 1985 at Mercy hospital in Des Moines Iowa. He was a Staff Sergeant in the US Army Air Corps during World War II; he was assigned to the 8th Air Force, 305th Bomb Group. Darry was Fire Chief for the town of Havelock, Iowa.
