Description	:	Darwin Alden, age 74 of rural Charles City, died Friday, November 5, 2010 at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at the Conway Funeral Home in Riceville. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday and one hour prior to services on Tuesday. Burial with military rites will be in Riverside Cemetery. Read More	Darwin Alden, age 74 of rural Charles City, died Friday, November 5, 2010 at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage. Darwin Henry Alden was born on February 10, 1936 at Rockwell, Iowa, the son of Roy and Lottie (Walker) Alden. As a small boy, the family moved to the Riceville area where he attended school. Following graduation from high school, Darwin entered the Air Force serving his tour of duty. After he was discharged, he met and married Lois Brown on January 14, 1961 in Rochester, MN. Following their marriage, they made their home in the Charles City area. Darwin worked as a machinist at the Oliver Corporation and eventually White Farm Tractors in Charles City and enjoyed living on the acreage where he could enjoy his hobby of horses and antiques. He belonged to the Charles City Saddle Club. Darwin was an awesome dad and was like a father to his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Lois; his children and their spouses: April and Bryce Landers of Buena Vista, TN, John and Connie Alden of Nora Springs, IA, June Alden of Barrie, Ontario, Canada; and Fina and Mark Azbill of Wildersville, TN; nine grandchildren: Eric, Beau and Jasper Alden, Jammie and Nicole Landers; Brett and Brad Alden; Hailey and Alden Azbill; three brothers: Dwight (Darlene) Alden of Nora Springs, IA, Larry (Karen) Alden of West Branch, MN, Garry (Delores) Alden of Milton/Freewater, OR; five sisters: Ethel Haley and Bonnie (James) Hubka, both of Riceville, IA, Marilyn ( Leonard) McInroy of Charles City, IA, Darlene (Gerald) Griffin of Las Vegas, NV, and Frances (Robert) Wilson of Charles City, IA. Preceding Darwin in death were his parents, Roy and Lottie Alden, a grandson, Bryce Landers, and two brothers Charles and Melvin Alden.
