He was born at Homestead, Iowa, March 2, 1878. He was the son of John Fred and Caroline Marie Newkirk. He was educated in the parochial school of St. John's Lutheran at Homestead. His confirmation in the Lutheran faith took place in St. John's church April 10, 1892. He became a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church in 1930. He was married to Amalia Schwarting on February 28, 1901. He was a farmer who retired several years ago to make his home in Williamsburg. Mrs. Newkirk died on December 27, 1935. One son, Vernon, of South Amana survives his father as does one daughter, Stella. He left one grandchild. Mr and Mrs. David Newkirk had a third child, a daughter, who died in infancy. Two of his brothers survive him. They are Ed. J. Newkirk and Ernest Newkirk of Williamsburg. His sisters-in-law are Mrs. Ernest Newkirk, Williamsburg, Mrs. August Newkirk, Orange, Calif., Mrs. Fred Newkirk, Detroit, Mich. His brothers-in-law are John Glandorf, Williamsburg and Henry Glandorf, Vinton, Iowa. Funeral services for the deceased were held Saturday at 1:45 p.m. in the Ulhmann funeral home and in St. Paul's Lutheran church at 2 p.m. Rev. Enno Schuelke officiated. Organist was E. R. Kiekhaefer; Soloist, Miss Gladys VonAhsen. Interment was in Immanuel Lutheran cemetery. Pallbearers were Walter Newkirk, William E. Newkirk, Friedmond Newkirk, John H.
