David Kelly Wood was born on October 1, 1931, to Russell and Esther Wood, a prominent family in the fruit industry in the Wenatchee Valley. Within four weeks... Read More	October 1, 1931 ~ July 27, 2014 David Kelly Wood, 82, of Waterville, WA, passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2014. David Kelly Wood was born on October 1, 1931, to Russell and Esther Wood, a prominent family in the fruit industry in the Wenatchee Valley. One of seven children, Dave started his career as a teenager, trucking fruit to market in Spokane. In 1950 at the age of 19, he enlisted in the United States Navy, circumnavigating the globe in his four years of service, and earning four medals. He was honorably discharged on November 17, 1954. Within four weeks he found himself at the alter, promising to love, honor, and cherish, until death do us part… he had met, and on December 17, 1954 married, 16 year old Edith Ann White of Okanogan, the love of his life. That promise carried them through their life, and the birth of five sons, for just months shy of 60 years. His work career continued in the field of construction, where he worked on Wells, Rocky Reach, and Chief Joseph Dams. For a short time, he and Ann worked for Ron Knutsen laying hardwood floors, until he found the job from which he would retire… dump truck and backhoe operator for Mike Wood Excavation. His grandchildren have fond memories of riding along with grandpa, jumping in the dirt, and helping to steer the heavy equipment, though they doubt now how helpful they were. Dave was a gifted storyteller and self taught musician, using these talents to bring joy to residents of the convalescent homes around the Wenatchee Valley with his enthusiastic playing and the voices of those he would gather to accompany him. He served his church, the Valley View Seventh-Day Adventist Church, as an Elder, a Deacon and a weekly greeter for over 20 years, however his real passion was always his family. Devoted to his sons and especially his 15 grandchildren, he and Ann made their home a place of slumber parties, warm meals, and dirt clod fights. Dave’s weekends were spent camping up the Entiat River, or fishing at Jameson Lake, or an occasional fishing trip to the ocean with his brothers. He is respected in the community, well thought of in his career, but cherished and missed by his family, including three brothers, Jerry (Myrtle), Mike, and John (Mary); one sister, Wanda Smith; his wife, Ann; sons, Kelly, Brian (Terry), Kevin (Dorothy), Brett (Brenda), and Kraig (Marjorie); grandchildren, Steven, Brian, Shannon, Ryan, Justin, Aaron, Devin, Shane, Kyle, Trevor, Andrew, Chelsie, Russell, Dannielle, and Michaela; and 21 great-grandchildren. Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 1, 2014, at Waterville Cemetery.
