J.H. Storme, Mr. David Metzler and Miss Mary E. Oliver, all of this county; At last has our friend Metzler fallen under the battery of bright eves, and gracefully surrendered and become a resident of the State of Matrimony. He was a member of the 19th Iowa Infantry, (Co. B. Capt. Harry Jordan) and was with that regiment in all its hard work and pleasant times. May he and his fair bride ever be thankful that they were joined in the bands of wedlock and may a full share of this happiness of this earth always be their portion." (Submitted by Richard K. DEATH: The initial death notice story (see below, transcribed from microfilm image) indicated that his home was under quarantine, but whether or not that applied to just his home or others due to disease isn't known. The story below indicated that additional funeral services would be held at a later date, but exactly when isn't known at this time. Perhaps at that time a more full obituary was published. Any clarification would be appreciated. --------- Fairfield Daily Ledger-Journal Tuesday, December 26, 1922 Pg. 2 Col. 6 & 7 DAVID METZLER RITES HERE THIS AFTERNOON David Metzler passed away at his home in Packwood at 11:30 oclock (sic) Saturday night. He was 81 years old and a veteran of the Civil War. Only three months ago his aged wife was laid away. On account of the house being under quaranetine (sic), no service was held at the home, save prayer on the lawn at 12:30 p.m. Friday. Masons had charge of the services at the grave in the Fairfield cemetery (sic. Evergreen cemetery) at 2 oclock. Rev. C. R. Ward of Kirksville, a former pastor and Rev. S. K. Coates of Washington, a comrade in the army will hold a memorial service at a date to be announced later
