Description	:	Unity - Belfast officials were called to Unity Saturday afternoon, August 15, 1942, because of the death by drowning of Dawn Caroline Shorey, ten year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Edwin Shorey of Unity. The child was swimming in a stream near her home, just beyond Unity Village, and was in the water alone, but her two younger brothers were on the bank. Read More	Unity - Belfast officials were called to Unity Saturday afternoon, August 15, 1942, because of the death by drowning of Dawn Caroline Shorey, ten year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Edwin Shorey of Unity. The child was swimming in a stream near her home, just beyond Unity Village, and was in the water alone, but her two younger brothers were on the bank. It is not known just what happened to Dawn, but the children noticed that something was wrong and ran for help. She was in the water about half an hour before the body was recovered. Dr. O. S. Vickery, medical examiner, of Belfast and the local doctor in Unity, were called. Deputy Sheriff Elwyn Sheldon brought Mahlon Dumont, a first aid instructor, from the Central Maine Power Company who used an inhalator for over two hours, but to no avail. Dawn was born June 21, 1932, daughter of Clyde and Manilla (Reynolds) Shorey. The little girl is survived by her parents, six brothers and four sisters. (Published in the Belfast Republican Journal)
