His obituary: The Times Reporter (New Philadelphia, Ohio) 19 Dec 2018 Dean Brown Miller Dean Brown Miller, 96, of the Bowerston area, passed away Sunday, December 16 at the Community Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia. He was born at home on May 29, 1922 in Harrison County’s Monroe Township. After marrying the former Roberta Joan Farlow of Uhrichsville, they made their home on part of the original Miller farm which had been in the family since 1878. Dean was predeceased by his father, Clyde A. Miller, and mother, the former Gladys M. Brown of Tunnel Hill. He lost his wife, Roberta, after 58 years of marriage in February 2007. He is survived by a son, David Miller; daughter, Diana Miller; and three granddaughters, Alisha (Jason) Orefice of Portland, Oregon, Jessica (Berry) Stephens of York, South Carolina, and Natasha (JR) Bailey of Rock Hill, South Carolina. He is also survived by his sister, Helen Cramblett of Sherrodsville; and twin brother, Charles Miller of Bowerston. Dean served in the army during World War II as a part of Task Force Herron. Dean and Charles were in the 70th Division of the 274th Infantry, attached to the 7th Army commanded by General Alexander M. Patch, and the 45th Division of the 3rd Army, commanded by General George S. Patton, in combat for 88 consecutive days in the campaigns of Ardennes-Alsace, Rhineland and Central Europe in the Battle of Norwind. They were assigned as heavy weapons ammunition bearers for the battalion, serving from 1943 to 1946. Upon returning home, he worked at the former Evans Pipe Company in Uhrichsville until it closed, then retired from Reymond Machine in Midvale in 1996. Dean enjoyed traveling all over the country, going to Myrtle Beach, spending time with family, and connecting with old army buddies. Services, officiated by Rev. Mark Unrue, will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 20, at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow at Tunnel Hill Cemetery near Bowerston in the Brown Family Cemetery. Visitation will be 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave. S.W., New Philadelphia, OH 44663, in lieu of flowers.
