Deborah Atkinson, daughter of Jonathan and Ruth Farlow, was born in Orange county, Indiana, January 14th, 1838. Died March 29th, 1900, aged 62 years. 2 months and 14 days. She was united in marriage to John D. Atkinson, at Beech Grove, Grange county, Indiana, November 22, 1860, the marriage being solemnized according to the usage of the Society of Friends, she and her husband having a birthright in that church. They lived happily together during those long years, and stood together through sorrow and misfortune. In fact, in the language of Holy Writ, they were as it were, one flesh. There were born unto them six children, five sons and one daughter, of whom two sons and one daughter survive her. In childhood and early womanhood she was obedient to parents, was a loving and devoted wife, a tender and careful mother, a kind and obliging neighbor, and in truth whom to know was to respect and love. She was converted in a series of meetings at Beech Grove, Indiana, and lived a very exemplary and Christian life, and at times spoke in church, though of a very backward and quiet disposition. On nearing the end she prayed fervently for the Lord to take her home to rest. We are comforted in the belief that her prayer has been answered, and that she has gone to join that innumerable host that no man can number, where there is no sickness, death nor sorrow, where she will meet her little lambs, and best of all, where she will meet Him who died that she might live on throughout the ceaseless ages yet to come. But there will now be a vacant seat that none can fill, and husband and children often sigh in memory of one so lovely; but may we be ready to meet her when the messenger of death calls us from works to reward.
