Delbert Stephen Holtkamp, 82, of West Burlington, Iowa, died at 8:38pm on Saturday, December 19, 2020, at Fort Madison Community Hospital in Fort Madison, Iowa, due to complications from COVID (covid-induced pneumonia). Born October 22, 1938, in Houghton, Iowa, he was the son of Leo and Catherine (Pomberg) Holtkamp. On June 29, 1963, he married Alice (Newcomer) Holtkamp of Downing, Missouri. They divorced in 2007. Mr. Holtkamp was an auto mechanic and owned his own business, DACO Services, for many years. He served in the Iowa National Guard. He loved to play cards with friends, and especially enjoyed family parties with his sons, daughters-in-law, and grandson, for which he always requested lasagna. Survivors include his two sons – Alan Holtkamp (Catherine) of Kansas City, Missouri, and Dean Holtkamp (Jennifer) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; one grandson, Alexander Holtkamp of Kansas City, Missouri; one brother, Leo Holtkamp (Len) of Fort Worth, Texas; and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters – Mary Kenel, Elda Cullen, Eileen Beimer, and Margie Cullen; and three brothers – Paul Holtkamp, Wayne Holtkamp, and Gene Holtkamp. Per his wished, cremation has been entrusted to King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory and will be buried with his parents in St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Houghton, Iowa. Due to COVID, a short, private burial service will be conducted by Father Dan Dorau of St. John's Catholic Church, in conjunction with the King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory. A link to a video of the service will be made available afterwards. A celebration of life will be held at some time in the future when it is safe to do so. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in his memory to the Foundation of the Fort Madison Community Hospital in thanks for their tireless efforts to help him survive COVID and the personal care he received at end-of-life.
