Doane passed away at her home in this city at 6:40 a.m. to-day. For the past two months Mrs. Doane has been a great sufferer from that dread disease, dropsy, and despite the fact that she has made a hard fight for life, in which she was assisted by a loving husband and family, and the best medical talent, it became evident some time ago that there could be but one end to the struggle. Mrs. Doane was an earnest Christian, a member of the Trinity Episcopal church of this city, and will be sadly missed by all who were her associates in the work of the church and in the social life where she moved. While her death was not unexpected still it comes as a shock to all and a subdues spirit of sadness is noticeable throughout the city, and many hearts are stirred in sympathy for the afflicted family. Della Morse Eldridge, wife of Frank A. Doane, was born in Coffeyville, Kans., July 3, 1873, and has resided in Lawrence since 1881. She died at the age of 20 years, 4 months and 4 days. She was a member of Trinity church of this city, and a graduate of the Lawrence High School class of '92. She was married to Mr. Frank A. Doane on the 18th of last January at the family residence, 630 Rhode Island street, where she has since lived. She was the third daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thos. B. Eldridge. The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the residence. The friends of the family are invited. ********************** The Lawrence Daily Journal, 08 Nov 1889, Wednesday DEATH OF MRS. DOANE. Mrs. Frank A. Doane, formerly Della Morse Eldridge, died at 6:45 this morning, after a lingering and painful illness of nine weeks. She was born in Coffeyville, Kansas, July 3, 1873. Her parents removed to Lawrence in 1881, and she has since resided in this city. She was married to Mr. Doane on the 18th of last January. She was a member of the Trinity church, and was a faithful, conscientious Christian, beloved by her friends and highly respected by every one. Her death was not unexpected as she has been a sufferer for a long time, and only her resolute will and hopeful disposition have kept her alive for weeks. Among her associates she was a great favorite, and her death is a most sorrowful ending of a young life full of bright promise and high hope for the future. She graduated from the Lawrence High school in the class of 1892, and was always one of the brightest and best of the pupils. Mrs. Doane was a daughter of the late Major T. B. Eldridge, one of the early settlers of Lawrence, a pay master in the army during the civil war and for many years connected with the Union Pacific, Santa Fe and Southern Kansas railroads, and who was widely known throughout Kansas. The grief-stricken husband, mother and family of the deceased have the warmest sympathy of a large circle of friends. The funeral will be held at the family residence on Rhode Island street at two o'clock tomorrow, Thursday afternoon. ******************** The Lawrence Daily Gazette, 09 Nov 1893, Thursday THE LAST RITES. Many Friends Attend the Funeral of Mrs. Frank A. Doane. The funeral of Della Eldridge Doane wife of Mr. Frank D. (sic) Doane, was held this afternoon at 3 o'clock from her late home on Rhode Island street. On account of the popularity of the young wife during her short life, the attendance was very large and the floral tributes very many. The flowers were very beautiful and seemed to be synonomous (sic) of the life that was sweet and gentle and faded before its full maturity. Making all brighter for having lived, the lesson of Della Doane's life will live on after her. She was a great favorite with those among whom she associated and will be deeply mourned by a wide circle. The funeral services were in charge of Rev. W. W. Ayres, rector of Trinity Episcopal church, and were brief but impressive. The musical portion of the services was provided by a special choir from the Trinity church. The ceremony at the grave at Oak Hill cemetery was short and conducted according to the Episcopal burial service. ******************** The Lawrence Daily World, 09 Nov 1893, Thursday GONE HOME. Mrs. Frank A. Doane Passes to Her Long Home After An Illness of Some Weeks. Mrs. Della Eldridge Doane, wife of Frank A. Doane died yesterday after an illness of some weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Doane were only married last January and to have their wedded bliss so rudely broken is sad indeed. Mrs. Doane was born in Coffeyville, Kansas, on July 3, 1873, and has lived in Lawrence for twelve years. She was beloved by all who knew her and her death will be severely felt by her hosts of friends. She was of a loving disposition, quick to sympathize with those needing sympathy, and withal one of those characters who cannot well be spared. In this great affliction Mr. Doane has the sympathy of his large circle of friends. The funeral will be held from the family residence on Rhode Island street at 3 o'clock today. ********************** The Lawrence Daily Journal, 11 Nov 1893, Saturday CARD OF THANKS.
